TF_geepsterParticipantI see Grant and Steve Rothery got through from the Maver Match This events at the weekend.
Any feedback on how many fished these events?

TF_geepsterParticipantLike who? Quite a few people i spoke to thought they would get 30 odd….
I know there were over 100+ pegs but the numbers are not as bad as some were predicting… guess it’s a half empty/half full thing.
I’m sure Phil is disappointed, which is a shame. I don’t know the sums but hats off to him for getting behind it in the first place…

TF_respectI cant believe this comp is not fully suscribed!
If you enter fisho at £25 plus pools on the day of £10 plus £20 to be in the angling trust its cost £55 to fish before you start adding on fuel/bait/breakfast?
I take my hat off to Mr Briscoe and hope he sticks with it :~)

TF_NathanWatsonThere was a £20 pool at Viaduct, £15 at Lindholme and still gotta travel, breakfast if you want etc!

TF_streamlineAnd we used to say that the price of B&J put a lot of people off fishing it. £50 + £20 pools + breakfast + fuel adds to over £100 for a few of those that fished this match. Now that is scary, even in todays inflated society.

TF_NathanWatsonMore like £150 for me to Viaduct!

TF_geepsterParticipantYes expensive.
But you probably pay £40 to fish a match with £250 to the winner, if you include entry, pools, fuel, bait and breakfast.
So £100 to fish a match with the chance of a potential £50k to the winner surely stacks up if you move in those circles….???Doesn’t it???? Or am I missing something?

TF_streamlineQuite true, but also why so many match anglers out there are leaving our sport, because they are priced out.
I might just as well stick £100 on the 130/1 outsider to win the National, because they are the odds you are looking at, now how many of us out there would lump that money on a nag?
Certainly not me, and I can’t justify spending that amount of money ‘chasing’ the dream of winning £50k as it is spent in better ways at the moment.
Good luck to those that try though.

pfft….More like 300 quid for me.
130.00 Fuel
98.00 Eurotunnel
70.00 Ticket/PoolsI did win my 5 pegs though for 100.00 which helped a bit!!
And I’m going to do it all again this weekend for the fisho at Viaduct. Hope I don’t draw Lodge again!!
Can’t wait to move back from Belgium, will be much cheaper then!!

TF_geepsterParticipantTrue Streamline on some levels. I’ve fished a lot around Europe and even in the Far East. In France for instance, you fish for trophies, and rules are made so that matches don’t favour those with the most expensive gear (eg 13m pole limits) or money (hence bait limits, strictly enforced). Mind you, match fishing is hardly booming in France either. In Japan, again you don’t fish for money. You win TV’s stereos etc etc…. Mind you in Spain money talks….

TF_Stevie HNath,
I was on 73 in the corner to your 10 o’clock on the Cary bank.
I had to watch young Geraint catch all day opposite me. I just couldn’t get a bite from under the tree for the majority of the match. There are normally a lot of resident fish under that tree, but the problem is that everybody walks that bank to get to Cary/Lodge pegs along the path and I am sure that this doesn’t help.
I had 1 carp/2 skimmers on the bomb after 45 mins. Then 1 carp under the tree with 45 mins to go and another 3 in the last 10/15 mins under the tree to pip my 5 peg.
I weighed 37lb odd. In a sick sort of way, I would still be fairly happy with that peg next week on the off chance that it fishes well.
I did have a giggle when Paul Hilliers carp pulled your pole under. What did you end up with?

TF_NathanWatsonI foulhooked 1 roach down the edge about the size of a maggot and that was it! I would fancy the peg Gerraint was on but not too sure with camera men etc on bank! Or the 1 Paul Holland was on.

TF_Stevie HAgain, I wouldn’t have been to disappointed with the peg that you or Ben Leach was on to be honest.
I have had some good days fishing the bomb/conker along the rope. Its normally good for a few fish and if you can get them going I have had 131lb from Bens peg when there have been a few anglers on Lodge.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Spring lake threw up the goods again next week.
