It has been drawn to the attention of the Angling Trust that a rumour is in circulation to the effect that Mitch Smith has been re-instated as manager of the Angling Trust’s international carp team. Nothing could be further from the truth and it is totally unfounded, Ian Huntingdon and Pete Holehouse are in charge and will take the team to Italy in October.
Dick Clegg, OBE, International Events Manager for the Angling Trust stated “I don’t know for sure who started this ridiculous rumour, but I do have my own suspicions, and I would like to state categorically that there is no substance to it. Part of the rumour states that I have decided to retire and that my replacement is Mark Downes with Mark supposed to have appointed Mitch Smith as team manager replacing both Ian and Pete.”
“Please be assured that this is not the case and will not be happening while I am in office. Both Ian and Pete have my full support and no-one could have done a more professional job than these two. Such rumours serve only to undermine the team just as they are in the final preparations for this year’s competition. What all teams require when representing their country is support and backing, and we do not want this kind of contentious issue to disrupt their concentration immediately before the event.”
Mark Downes, who is currently in Croatia with Drennan Team England for the Nations Championship, has had a telephone conversation with Dick Clegg in which he denied any knowledge of the rumour. He was also extremely concerned that his name should have been linked with a report that appears to have no reliable source.
The Angling Trust would like to offer all their very best wishes to the team competing in this years World Championship, and to thank the team sponsors Korda for all their continued sponsorship and support.
