Angling Trust appoints Tom Pickering as Manager of New England Feeder Team

The Angling Trust is delighted to announce that it has appointed Tom Pickering as the Manager of its new Feeder team, which will compete in the inaugural World Championships in Italy later this year.

This new FIPSed competition will be held as part of the World Angling Games and be fished on the 1st and 2nd of September 2011 on the river Tevere in Perugia, Italy.

Dick Clegg, OBE, International Events Manager said, “It is expected that this event will attract many of the countries affiliated to FIPSed and England need to be involved from the start. Tom’s credentials are ideal for the job and I had no hesitation in asking him to accept the position of Manager. Tom was part of the Nations team for many years and became individual World Champion in Bulgaria in 1989.

He was also very successful as the Manager of the Ladies England team, who went on to win 3 team and 3 individual gold medals during his term in office. I know Tom will give 100% to the job and I am sure the team will win medals from the start.â€

Oh dear me it’s bad enough that the angling trust can’t get enough funding for it’s present National teams (ladies and disabled) without entering another team event.

Join the angling trust your country needs your
funds after all another jolly up don’t come cheap!

have the AT gone a step to far considering it’s financial constraints?

          I do wonder?

Fred, i was wondering about the funding as well!

Maybe they expect the picked anglers to fund themselves

I have to agree with Fred. I am a strong supporter of the Angling Trust and have been a member of that and its predecessor the NFA. Have been for years.

This is a step too far in my opinion apart from which I have never liked any matches that have nonsensical rules. The current CIPS rules for one where you may not have line on the deck but they all do! Nor am I a believer in ‘pole only’ matches or ‘float only’ matches. Indeed I am not too keen on ‘silver fish only’ matches although at this time of the year I do fish them.

I think you’ll find that the teams have got to fund themselves out of their own pockets; the ladies have been quoted roughly £1,600 each that we will have to pay. This is not ‘another jolly up’ as you put it but another chance to show the rest of the World how good we are at angling.

If you were waiting for a bite on this Fred, you got me; hook, line and feeder!! ~clap

Ok julie slightly said tongue in cheek I for one do not suggest that the angling trust pay for “jolly up’s” but entering any national competition costs are incurred even if it is the cost of supplying AT representatives to attend meetings and the comp etc, all costs money that they don’t have, I personally think it’s madness especially considering the financial problems they have.

Out of curiosity, what are the rules ?

Is it strictly rod and line swimfeeder fishing on the deck, ie open end, block end and method ?

Is the feeder on the pole allowed ?

Don’t know basher it’s a new one on me and frankly, it’s a bit odd isn’t it?

Are we going to have a waggler world champs and a pole world champs and a whip world champs as well as a main world champs as well?

Like many things CIPS do, this event has probably been invented to make more money for, er, CIPS.

It’s a bit ludicrous when you think about it.

Give it a few years. Then, they could attempt to fish matches where rod and line, feeder fishing and poles being allowed in the same competition. No idea if something so revolutionary as being able to use any method would catch on. ~think ~think ~think

Is the place to look at if you want to know a little more.

The minutes of the last Fips meeting are out now, there you can read all the rules and the setup for the feeder WC, should you like. (however the document is not yet up on the fips webpage)

I think it’s great, something else we can lead the world at.

Also means some excellent anglers get to wear an England shirt where they had no chance before due to the existing team being so solid.

Hope Tom picks himself for the team.

Think about the cost of the tackle, to do it right and cover most of the permutations with out re- tackling you may want up to 10 identical rod and reel set ups. Then there is which type, I have 5 differnt float rod types that I use depending on the venue but about 15/20 feeder rods.
When there arent the high profile river feeder matches of old, hows he going to pick the team?
Will it be a case of once your in your in for good , because you then have the experience?

though supportive of our national team and the AT funding for these i support-

however, can’t help but thinking of Geep’s wry comments in light of FIFA, Olypmics and most event organising commercially driven bandwagons.
