The newly stocked carp seemed mainly in the high numbers on both banks, but it was mainly the older resident fish that provided the top weights.
Having spent the first hour on the pellet feeder and bite-less, Susie Smith (peg B9) switched to pole and paste fished in her right margin. The response was immediate, hooking six carp in her first six “put ins”. Although she lost several big fish, she still managed to put 111-14 on the scales (knocked back to 111-06 as the 80-00 net limit was exceeded by 0-08) giving her a clear win with the first Wednesday “ton-plus” weight of the year.
On peg A15, Daz Shaw struggled on bomb and pellet but a switch to pole and pellet fished to the reed bed produced bites regularly, and in spite of several lost fish his 71-14 took second place.
John Adamson on peg A5 caught his fish on method feeder fished at long range, and included two “stockies”, two bream and a goldfish alongside 8 decent carp for 63-00 and third place.
