I fished a match today, and loads of carp were cruising about, a few times I lowered a bait in front of fish, any way I hooked two (both in mouth) one was fighting fit, the other came in like a wet sack, the fish looked ok,but after the weigh in this fish appeared to be struggling and looked like it might not survive. Now I feel really guilty as this fish might not have been feeding but gasping for oxygen, did I do ought wrong by attempting to catch fish in those circumstances. Incidentally I finished second and the fish didn’t make any difference to the result.

I think most match anglers would have done the same. I can recall two matches at the Glebe (one on Uglies, one on Foundation) when I caught quite a few dapping a pellet in front of cruising fish…..

If it makes you feel any better there are several top / named anglers who have done the same and one or two have been known to qualify for big events doing it….but does it make it right?

Personally I think we should shut up shop during spawning periods, but unfortunately the addiction will give you every reason to continue…

I wouldnt let it concern you too much there are far worst things you could do and if you feel so bad maybe not fishing during spawning periods would be better!!!!

I wouldnt worry about that Badger, I fished a match at Acton a couple of years ago and one lad weighed in his fish, one of the fish was 70% fungus and barely kicking it raised a few eyebrows as to wether or not the fish had even seen a hook !
