TF_CutnutConsidering changing to different phone and going monthly tarrif…don’t make lots of calls or text massively…how many call minutes do you find enough? some offer 250 minutes I think this would be enough for me but not sure.
looking at a Nokia N8 as it’s most compatible with car handsfree and so on.
Any thoughts?…not about phone as mind is made up.

TF_scarfWhatever way you decide to go look at ASDA mobile’s tariffs before you decide, they’ve got best rates and use the Vodafone network. Airity performance at Avanti prices.

TF_Bingo WingsParticipantCutnut if you are a Virgin media customer (Tv BB and landline customer) you can get this sim only deal on a 30 day rolling contract for just over a tenner, half the advertised price. You will have to buy your phone but only a 30 day contract and i never use anywhere near my allowance.
Virgin Media £20.43 – 30 day rolling contract
SIM card cost FREE
Your tariff gives you:* Unlimited minutes to other virgin mobiles
* 800 minutes
* Unlimited texts
* 1GB Mobile WebDon’t know if this is of any help to you.

TF_CutnutConsidered this but don’t really want to shell out £200+ for an N8. even with a £100 voucher I have from tesco mobile for an upgrade. ~think
Still hovering but will have to make the choice by end of April when the voucher expires.
The main choice for me is the amount of minutes I’m actually likely to use and how locked in you are. Are these sim only deals monthly or yearly and do you keep your original number?

TF_GavinI looked into changing mine and have yet to decide, but I know for certain that Virgin Mobile allow you keep your existing number aslong as you can can the PAC code from your original network provider.
I’m sure that most of the pay monthly tarrifs are a fixed term contract, but then you do get the phone free. Not to say they won’t let you upgrade the tariff should you need too, without adding to the term of the contract.
In all honesty, I think your best bet is to go into a shop of your network providor (can’t do that with Tesco or Asda, staff don’t care) and tell them what you want, more often than not they can tailor a package to suit with bolt-on’s, but the advantage of using your existing provider is that providing you registered your number they’ll tell you exactly what you’ve been using so you know what you need in you monthly package.

TF_Glenn ArcherIf you think you can get an N8 for less than that then go for it, whether you pay monthly or not, you will be paying far more than £200 for one, only benefit for you is payments spread out and paying more like £400 + per year for phone and deal, which is crazy when you can get it for £320 or less, depending on what package you want. If you havent got £200 to pay for phone borrow the money, its a no brainer!!!
Sim only is either PAYG or on a rolling monthly contract, so you can change after 30 days if you find a better deal. Tariffs changing all the time, usually going down at present, so best to be able to get out while the goings better elsewhere.
My advice is obvious, buy the phone from Tesco and save yourself lots of money over 18 or 24 months. I would advise getting the phone insured though!!!
Of course you can keep your own number, all providers will give you a PAC code to transfer if you switch suppliers.
