ive got the same rod mate! 3012s are a better size real for pelwag faster line retreve. i use a team daiwa match. got tdrs too thers no diferrence in my opinion apart from tdr is in a seeled but not water proof caseing. ive had hold of a few airity reels. there too free running. ence will couse tangles when handle drops. ide go for a tdr 3012 its cheeper. but tdx looks better.

I agree about bigger size but I prefer Shimano 4000 rear drags as I never use drag and they’re cheaper!

In the Daiwa range I would stick with the 2500 range for balance and sensible spool diameter ie Whisker, Excelor, Caldia, TDR or above if your wallet allows. If you wanted Shimano, spools are smaller, I would go with the Technium 3000/4000. Front drag all the way, just set the drag to one third of your hooklength and get hauling.

                    Drags are horrible things!

Nathan Carp are horrible, stupid, greedy things in the summer but that’s another discussion.

I’d personally go for the 3012 size, its a busy method with loads of casting and winding in and when your winding in you aint getting bites!! you need a decent retrieve and if i remember correctly the 2508 is 27″ and the 3012 is 34″ makes a difference imho.

I already have TDR’s & TDX’s in both sizes but TBH I know little about PW fishing but I’m determined to crack it this summer,

It’s not a long distance method though as you’re limited to how far you can catty pellet. imo the balance of a smaller reel on an 11 foot rod is more important as it’s a busy method.

Often been able to use a lighter float is better and larger spools, thinner lines help you to do that.

Mitchell 300X’s are great for pellet waggler.
