TF_stavDaiwa have gone stupid with the price of small items such as hooks since 2011 catalogue came out.
Gama hooks has gone from £1.25 to £1.75
G line has gone from £5.99 to £8
its not the tackle shops fault it daiwa gettin greedy if preston and kamasan can keep the price reasonable why can’t they, all the hooks come from the same place (china) -

worm drownerTight sods. Your hook and hooklength are the most important part of your set up. Are you all using flagship £1000 plus poles, 4 £100 plus rod and reel combinations and moaning about 50p.

TF_CockneyNo reason to pay £1.75 for a pack of 10 hooks when you can get at the moment Maver hooks for 0.99 a pack. Good enough for Jamie Masson!!

TF_budnuddParticipantPetrol is £1.30 p/l but your cars worth 20k- is petrol therefore a fair price?

makSO IS IT ALL DOWN TO VAT
£.50 on hooks
£3 on line
£1 Preston hook boxs2.5% at each stage
Shop gets
2.5% gas
2.5% electric
2.5% phone
2.5% advertising
So shops put up vat by 2.5% on items for sale
if not vat register all to findRate of inflation.
Has your wage gone up the same. DON’T THINK SOAT THIS RATE
people will cutback on spending on tackle
Cut back on distances. Will travel
Amount of times you go fishingPut it simply if people don’t see it now give it a bit then have a rethink
So is this part of what we get to increase 3rd world hand outs cutting nhs and other services people who need help can’t get it but if your a imagrent you get it handed to you
Let’s face it it feels like we are getting shafted

TF_One Out of the FrameThe cost of buying or leasing a car has never been cheaper!
Running it is of no consequence if you can offset it against company profit….. Private users however!!!!!
Fishing gear: Has the ‘industry’ “moved” in anticipation that people will still want to go fishing but may shirk the commercials, method groundbait, pellets etc to go to free fishing on the canals, rivers and ponds?
The only things you will need then are hooks and line! Might as well crank the price up as what is the alternative: Bent pin?

TF_D.W.Wish I paid £1.70 for a pack of ten hooks!!! On average I pay between £3.75 – £4.99 (pre-VAT rise prices) for a packet of ten hooks depending on what type & pattern they are. On average it costs me 40p per hook I use (and I only use each hook for one session or for each fish whichever comes first)!! Add the cost of a length of braid or coated braid for each hooklink as well as tungsten putty that may be lost on each fish or cast (depending on what I am fishing over) and that can add up to an average of £1.25 per hooklink or fish! A lot of you guys will recoup the cost of the hooks over a few pick ups, yet no money in specimen angling for catching.
Maybe if anglers thought less about the money in angling and on the pure enjoyment instead, then it might be less of a burden for you. Just think how many packets of hooks you could buy with not having that after match pint back at the pub after each match over a course of a season.(blue touch paper lit ;o) lol)

09/01/2011 at 9:55 pm #127982
TF_yorkshireWhat tosh, so a few pick ups means paying £1.75 is ok? Plenty of good hooks on the Market at 99p for 10 and plenty of good line at £4.99 spool 100m

TF_budnuddParticipantIf you compare two outrageous prices, does one therefore justify the other?

Anonymous‘its not the tackle shops fault it daiwa gettin greedy if preston and kamasan can keep the price reasonable why can’t they, all the hooks come from the same place (china)- you obviously know your stuff then !!!!!
I would assume that the huge increase is nothing whatsoever to do with the VAT or greed but more to do with the increase in costs over the last 1 1/2 – 2 years as exchange rates have tumbled and the pound has become alarmingly weak against the Yen. Yes, Yen. The currency they use in JAPAN.
