              Hi Matchpleasure.

Fished the Severn at Bewdley in mid-Aug, the river was low and clear and the fishing was bad due to the river conditions. My best advice would be to pop into Mark’s Tackle on Raven Street in Stourport he will suggest the best areas to try. Around Stourport the river is deeper and slower and is usually better in the winter months. Between Bewdley and Stourport the River is faster and shallower and better for barbel fishing.

Hopefully the recent rain has added some colour and flow to the river. Good luck.

cheers for the reply Scrubba, i spoke to mark the other day and he was saying it had risen a foot over last few days and prob would rise further yet so good news on that front. I totally take on board what your saying about going into the shop and i know you cant beat local knowledge however, we wanted to get there early to get decent pegs, meaning that we would prob miss the shop opening. Do you know which road to take and which pegs to look out for by any chance?

Whilst I was there I fished just below Bewdley town centre. To get there go over the river and turn immediate left onto Severnside past Stan Lewis tackle shop there is a car park at the end of the lane next to the river. You can park there all day for a couple of quid. Pegs are immediately below the car park. There is a footpath all the way along the river here pegs start in the 70’s and the best ones for barbel are below the ford in the river that you should see from the bottom of the car park. This is Kidderminster AA water and tickets can be bought on the bank. There is another KDAA section near a country park you can get there either from Bewdley or Stourport. These are the directions from Bewdley. From the car park entrance described earlier the lane bends to the right follow this to a T junction and turn left down the narrow street after a couple of hundred yards the road widens again follow this road up and down the hill and your desent you will drive under the by-pass after this on the left hand side is a carpark for the country park where you can access more pegs. A little further along on this road, there is a layby next to the river where you can also park. This is around peg 115, this area gets a lot of hammer due to the easy access and matches. This road from Bewdley will take you back to the main road out of Stourport eventually. Below the car park at peg 115 the River is under BAA control and if you follow the road once more towards Stourport the road runs alongside the river and you will notice car park places at intervals directly above the river so you can park behind the pegs here. But I think you need to purchase day tickets before fishing on any of the BAA waters. Otherwise the bailiff will ask you to go and get a ticket or leave.

Whilst I was there Mark suggested fishing near Trimperly reserviour which is upstream of Bewdley accessed via Northwood Lane out of Bewdley. Be warned it,s a long walk from the car park which was why I never bothered. So travel light if you decide to go there. I just checked Google maps for the road name between Bewdley and Stourport which is the B4194. Another section to try would be Hawksbatch.

Hope this helps once again either Marks Tackle or Stan Lewis’s shop will help with pegs and directions. And Google maps will give you an idea of the layout and access points.

                  Good luck and tight lines.

Have a look at the ‘talk angling’ site and go to ‘Match Results’ John the ‘Silver Surfer’ posts all the KDAA results on there twice a week with peg numbers. All pegs are permanent below and above Bewdley so you can look back and see the best ones. Hawkbatch area 11, 14, 29 & 30 (Big walks). Bewdley 69,70 and as post above states 114 is the best one below the town. The ‘T’ pegs are at the end of Northwood Lane and T9 is a beauty but private, owned by Jason Ford the KDAA match sec. If available get yerself on 69 or 70 (the Frenchmans) and you’ll catch!!
69 & 70 are above the town bridge. Car park available (at a cost!!) and walk about 500yds to the Frenchmans cottage.
All of Bewdley is Medium Kamasan black cap feeder with 3 &4mm halibut pellets. 4-6ft trace of 6lb+ line to a 18-16 strong hook and hair rigged 6 0r 8mm hali pellet. Caster/Hemp or Maggot/hemp does work but the pellet is a much cheaper option (helps off set the rip-off carpark charge!!)
113 & 114 is free parking in the lay by or Country Park car park. Can chuck up big weights on feeder or if you fancy float fished meat. Can be a bit more hit and miss.
If water is really low and clear which it could be due to no rain if you start at peg 70 and no joy move up to 59 or 60 in deeper water where not so many ‘shoal’ barbel but if the rod goes over here there’s a chance of a double. Best of luck!!
