After 30 odd years of foreign fishing holidays this year 6 of us have decided to have a ‘blast in the past’ and have 10 days fishing on the river severn. We are there late june /early july and staying (near a pub!) between Bridgenorth and Bewdley. The last time I did this (early 80s)we used to buy a BAA book and stick with that.Is that still the best thing to do or is there plenty of day ticket water about? What is the average size of the barbel nowadays and where are the best parts for a bit of stick and waggler fishing. Also in case of flooding which are the best bream/silver fish waters around there. No carp required this week. Were on holiday!
        thanks in advance

A bunch of us have gone every year for ten years or so staying at the Bulls Head in Chelmarsh- cracking food and beer…
BAA ticket still a good bet although day tickets also available for , among others, Hampton Loade, Apley Estate and Bridgnorth Golf course.
Most of the barbel we get are from 3 to 7 lb. Might get bigger ones if fished later but that would interfere with the social side of things ! Having said that we had a few last year around 9 lb with one double from the Brook section.
Some lovely float pegs on all the above mentioned, but last couple of years there haven’t been as many roach showing posibly because river has been low and clear when we were there.
In case of flooding, just put more dead cows on. We had our best year there three years ago when the river was coming over the banks most of the week- only problem was remembering the lie of the bank so you weren’t dropping the 4 to 5 oz of lead into the top of a hawthorn bush!
          Enjoy…
