REPORT
Long Eaton Victoria Angling Society’s 16th Championship Match of the season (for the Shipstone Cup) was fished (in gale conditions) on Club waters, the River Soar at Kegworth, when in spite of the awful conditions every competitor put over 3 lb of fish onto the scales at match end.
Drawing peg 6 (opposite the Houseboat) Paul Richardson alternated between float (long rod) and bomb, and in spite of continual ‘pike problems’ (chasing hooked fish and attacking his keep net) he caught steadily throughout to weigh in 6 lb 7 oz of roach and small chub for a clear win.
Second place was shared between Dave Kent (peg 7) and Anthony White (peg 3). Dave fished long rod and stick float for his 4 lb 12 oz of small fish, whilst Anthony fished waggler throughout for his catch, which included roach, perch, skimmers, chub and bleak. Both were pestered with pike throughout the day.
The Championship leaders filled the next two places, Malc Munn (peg 2) with 4 lb 7 oz taken on waggler and John Adamson (peg 4) with 68 fish for 4 lb 1 oz taken on pole (13m), Steve Wilcock with 3 lb 12 oz taken on waggler.
Current Championship leaders with 2 matches left are: John ADAMSON 265; Malc MUNN 205; Steve WILCOCK 194; Dave KENT 184; Mick LAGER 172; Paul RICHARDSON 154; Les OVERMASS 153; Carl HENRICK 151; Neil STEVENSON 144.
Next match (for the Jubilee Shield) is at Marstons Lake on Sunday 20 February.
