TF_Chris-turnerParticipantSeen a article In a angling paper for a box £999 and selling for £200 ,

RivestPersonally I never take any notice of RRP prices as they are always sky high and very rarely reflex the quality of the goods, in all honestly I dont think anyone in there right mind thinks the box is worth that in the first place, the same as a lot of other tackle, the value is something which a person will be more than happy to pay, hence why there has been a recent 500.00 drop off some rive prices, which makes you wonder how much profit they were making in the first place!. RRP/SSP/Real price – why cant people just put the price it is!!

TF_Chris-turnerParticipantmakes you wonder if the gear we spend 1000s on is really worth it

Got to agree with you mate never take any notice of the RRP prices
think its just tackle companies trying to big up there kit and try to make out that your getting it for a knocked down price to what the RRP saysquestion is why do they do it ?

TF_AnthonywatersParticipantIts bollox mate does my head in how they price tackle I was once informed by somebody in the trade that the rrp of a pole is calculated by buying every section separetly piece by piece this kinda makes sense

ajbParticipantI wish more companies were like Drennan – here’s a realistic price for our product, if you want it that’s what it is. At least you can make a judgement on the product and not worry about where you’re buying from or if it will be 50% cheaper in 2 weeks time. They tend to be pretty straight with you if there’s a problem, too.

TF_One Out of the FrameI think you are spot on regarding Drennan.
Rive/Sensas: I was over at the World Champs in Belguim in 2004 and you could buy this at at least half the price it was in the UK at the time!
I wonder if there is a sort of ‘exchange’ system with the top anglers in the sport… 1000 floats for a pole, 50kg groundbait for a reel etc?

TF_yiddoI have just seen this avanti modulite box rrp £800 in angling times. Do avanti think we are stupid? its an exact copy of the preston spacestation xs apart from different leg tightening knobs. How do they get away with blatently ripping other tackle companies off?

TF_Fred Davisfor £200 it’s got to be good for those on a budget, as for being a copy of a preston whats wrong with that I though the preston was a copy of a rive lol

TF_AnthonywatersParticipantAvanti will make it big soon then you will all be laughing on the other side of your faces you wait and see that man Roger Surgar is a modern Miracle.
-
16/12/2010 at 7:04 pm #125647
TF_bremesParticipantTBH i dont think Roger Surgay cares,he is a very astute business man who works extremely hard & reaps the benefits, the thing is you do have to be carefull what you buy,but there is some real good stuff under the Avanti/etc name, quite alot of various products are exactly the same has lets say more fashionable brands but at often a 1/3rd of the price.

TF_GavinI’m not sure how many brands copy each other as opposed to how many simply purchase from the same manufacturer. Does anyone believe either of those two actually make their luggage? I’d bet a pound they just buy it in- from the same place!

Quite true , made in china however vic bush from mosella spent around 2 years devoleping this style of luggage with that manufacturer only for it to be ripped of first by preston and then by maver but saying that vic should be flattered that the big tackle companies see his products so good they have to copy them

TF_howsmichaMy wife worked in retail for many years and told me years ago that there was a law that stated that it is (or was) illegal to overload the original asking price to make the sale (real price) seem more attractive. Ive never read or heard of anyone being fined or cautioned for breaking this law so the best advice is to use your own judgement.
