TF_joffmiestermark downes would like any ideal venues
mark is always looking to improve the event and might move it around
he is looking for a 120 to 150 peg venue must have good access and capable of hosting two days fishing and practicegloucester canal
stainy
or leave the same venue packington and put a section or two on barstonpersonally I’d leave it the same as i think the venue should be central for access north and south plus as hard as we all thought if fished the top teams still got it right and ted carters no blanks and still plenty of fish were caught
and there is fuel to think about
any other venues you might like to add ~think ~think -

TF_Nigel.Joff, i told him a month ago how mild it was, and how well its fishing, 2 sections on here would have been brilliant. I have just spoken to Tom Scohley who said he caught just over a kilo over 2 days, Darren Cox said he struggled too.
I have also just had a pint with Steve Ringer who has been here all day, he has just had 41 lb of skimmers and a 20lb carp for a feature!
Admittedly he was on his own, and if its cold its not too good here, but its a shame with it being so mild this year we didnt have the 2 sections he was thinking about a month ago.

TF_joffmiesterfare play Nigel i’m sure he will bare it in mind for next year, the competition is brilliant and although it fished harder than the past year i would struggle to name a venue where you could catch that amount of fish from so many areas and if he could add a couple at your fishery all the better
of course there always a few moaners and i think thats why mark D would rather hear them now, so work can begin on next years competition
the only moan i have heard was about the F1s in little geary’s yet i’m sure if it hadn’t been someone of RW quality these weights wouldn’t of ac curd plus there is nothing in the rule book that says you cant fish for them.i think everyone including the french wanted to catch over a bed of G/B fishing is not always like that
nigel how did your first race go on sunday mate -

TF_joffmiesteri’m not knocking the stainy or the gloucester as we have done well on both venues but its not a cheap weekend by any means and i can remember on the stainy out in the country where 1 perch was good and a bloke near me DNW both days at least when we said packington didn’t fish very well most had a KG OR MORE

TF_Joe CarassJoff the stainy is about 75% better now than it was back then. i love Packington but when you draw on lakes like Willow it kind of makes the whole thing a bit of a non-event in my eyes. how can an international rules event be held on a 12 peg lake????
it needs to be split with Barston really, and i would say that there should be a lot of pegs in at barston and then only use molands and geary’s.
i do think it needs to be in the midlands though so finding any more venues is a bit of a struggle.

TF_joffmiesterjoe i’d like to see that as well and i take you mean big gearys ~think i know what you mean about willows everytime i went around to molands i thought i’d hate to be on there even so if fished well

TF_Joe Carassye molands and big geary’s.
Joff willow was shocking on sunday mate… i drew it! i cam fourth in section off one of the narrow pegs and the top three all came in that corner where the reed bed is. crap.

TF_Nigel.The weather is spot on right now, its a beutifull day, and its fishing well here right now, as you say Joe and Joff, 3 big lakes would work better, Barston, Molands and big Geareys.
If you remember, the only reason it went to Packington, is because it was tight to get it all on here, so we put 2 sections on Packington, it was very good, (33kg won, and 34 KG won here) so it was a perfect split result, couldent have been closer, me and John (gaffer) had a quid on it! lol.
But then the whole match went on packington last year, and again this year, like i said, the year it was split between the 2 venues was the best year weve had.Yes Joff, 1st race was Sunday, went OK, I need more practice, the cars in bits again, rebuilidig for Kings Lynn the Saturday.~clap

TF_lloydy1970Don’t think you can get a perfect venue, I was next to Joe on Saturday and though we caught some fish we were out of the game with all the f1’s at end of lake but if mark had booked barston and weather went cold then there could of been loads of dries. Weather permitting I think barston, molands and geary’s is spot on, stainy would be superb bu t maybe too far for some to travel . Heard Gloucester mentioned because it fished ok Saturday with quite a few 6 and 7 pounds but would it stand the practicing and 2 days on bounce

i couldn’t tell you mate i had a meeting at cadburys world and went past it,it looked very clear and a lot smaller than i first thought so perhaps its not big enough now
looking at the comments its fair to say most are happy with packington with a couple of sections at barston sounds good to me

tomscholeyI think the Gloucester Canal or the Stainy would be perfect. I don’t mind the fishing being hard as long as it is relatively fair. Packington was unbelievably peggy. When anglers like Darren Cox come last and second to last in there sections over the two days it tells a story.
As for my weekend, it was a combination of lack of experience at that kind of fishing and not so great draws, but to catch under two kilos of fish on a commercial in two matches is bad form- even for me! 😀

johnbi worked it out for the 1st day 14lb was the average and i am guessing it was around the 10 lb mark on the 2nd day.i think that there were only 4 wieghts of less than a kilo for 240 anglers over the 2 days.the fishery took a hammering over 4 days with more practising on the thurs and fri than in previous years.the amount of bait that gets balled in has to be seen to be believed and this does not happen at any other time on the fishery.i know Mark wants to make the event larger next year and it may outgrow packington but i feel we did a decent job hosting it.

TF_diddy123i think it needs to be on a more relivant venue to world/european venues that the cips matches r run on. gloucester canal or stainy may be harder than packington/barston etc etc but surely wud be a good test.
fishing shallow for f1’s wud not figure, just like on the continent. -

to say its out grown packington, i don’t think so at tall mate i do think a couple of section might be better going on barston. but again we all have forgot what a horrendous winter we have had
as you know i fished with stan and some of the lads the week before and the fishing was brilliant 30 to 40lb of skimmers and roach what more do anglers want we all know you can’t have 120 winning pegs
john how many anglers fished that week pacticing i’m sure you said there was about 60 anglers on the friday
i just can’t see the stainy or the glouester taking that pressure
perhaps darrens and seans cips league should try these venues first -

TF_leemurphWell i think that the venue was perfect to host this event. Yes it was hard and got harder but like johnb wrote the place got absolutely hammered, and aren’t we forgetting that fish can get full!! And will back away. And aren’t some people forgetting that even though the place is a coarse fishery,(and a top class one at that), anglers weather it be pleasure anglers or match lads will only target the carp in the warmer months and will not even entertain the silvers to get the weights. And will see the silvers as a nuisance throughout the warm months. (I know that some pegs in summer will throw up weights of skimmers and people will target these to beat the carp weights, especially when the carp are spawning before anyone says). So these silvers can only take so much, no matter how stuffed the place is. If all the carp were took out and replced with silvers then yes it might/would be better for ‘US’ (who only fished the place for two days out of the WHOLE year) but the fishery has to accommadate anglers who want carp, and will keep coming back week after week and isn’t going to specifically stock silvers across the whole site, just for us, and is a business after all. And as for anglers struggling~hand we had never seen the place before and still qualified off some pegs were people turned round and said uh it’s crap there mate. Its about making the most of your’e peg and if you know you can only beat three people then so be it, your’e then hoping your’e team mates come up with the goods to pull you through ie working as a TEAM.
So carry on Packington well done. ~clap ~clap
