TF_C.A.T.C.H.Participantbilly,
I have the original Mach 3 and from what your pointing out it would “appear” from your comments it is.
Mine is dead light with a reel on and you almost dont feel any tip weight.
Not handled the XT though so can only comment on my original.

billy the squid s.t.aParticipantThey have the original in my local tackle shop and i have to say it does look very much the same, apart from graphics, yet it is much lighter and lightning fast on the strike. The xt i have is def not the same and def feels top heavy compared,, nice rod but not the same..

TF_dave brittainI spoke with James Robbins who is Shakespeares Design and Development Manager and he has advised that due to the sucess of the original rods the 11ft Mico’s original blank has been retained on the XT and remains unchanged.
From a commercial perspective it wouldn’t make sense for Shakespeare to change the blank due to the NRC’s, (non recurring costs), that would be accumulated in designing and manufacturing new blanks and mandrels, especially if you consider that demand is high and it is their most sucessful rod of recent times.

TF_billy the squidParticipantThen i don’t understand, unless i’v bought a dud, the xt i have when compared to the original looks like a clone but is not as crisp on the strike not by half! and def feels slightly top heavy! i’m still gonna use it but am slightly gutted as the original in my local shop is something else, might ask for a swap!!

TF_C.A.T.C.H.ParticipantBilly ask if Simon p has had fish on both and if he could give you an honest opinion on their actions etc.
That way you may decide not to swap.

T.thanks C.A.T.C.H but i have stated my opinion above…. ITS THE SAME ROD BLANK!!!!!
different graphics & slightly different reel seat, the weight, action, balance etc etc are THE SAME ON BOTH RODS.

TF_C.A.T.C.H.ParticipantNice one simonp. I was under the impression the XT had more backbone but looks like its just the same. Its still a cracking rod.
Are Shakespeare starting to do a Maver !! new rods every year but probably the same under the graphics just like Maver poles.
lol.

TF_nick_the_2ndI have 2 of the 10ft Mach 3 feeder rods and one is very slightly stiffer than the other.
I think you get a slight variation in most rods and no two will feel exactly the same.

TF_dave brittainI know it may sound stupid but the rod isn’t the 12ft version by some small chance is it?
That as far as I know would offer the only explanation as I’ve also spoken to Neil Mckinnon who helped develop the rods and he has told me the 11 ft rod is unchanged apart from graphics.
The 12ft version for the record has been designed with slightly more power to cater for longer chucks and bigger fish and will definitely be heavier and less crisp

TF_billy the squidParticipantNo it’s the 11ft, the micro. I could put up with it being a little top heavy, that’s not the big problem, it’s just the action, as i have said before the one in my local shop blew me away, not so much how light it is, but the speed of the thing on the strike. Mine “the xt” ain’t like that, I should however also point out that i bought it from a dealer on ebay at a bargain price, i have had other stuff from them and it’s all been A1 but maybee this one is a faulty second or something, if two shakespeare sponsered anglers say it’s the same blank then i’m not gonna argue, a case of devine punishment for tryin to save a few quid and not supporting my local…… never again.

Aquila SavageBlockedChanges are the great things. They can even change one person way of living. Some changes can be positive while some are the negative one. The Green Lawn varies and according to them the situation also varies. Now, need of the hour is that we should only adopt the positive one.
