TF_baitchefParticipantWent up to The Tamar Lake again today and though I would share my latest catch.
Started off on the slider as discussed but conditions were poor, so went on the feeder at about 45 yards. -

TF_PaddyGreat net of Bream.
What were you taking them on? Was that with cage feeder, or the method and with ground bait or pellets?
In fact where is Tamar Lake! I’ll google it!
Did you way that net of fish, it certainly looks like it’s going on a few pound – well done, great fishing. -

TF_baitchefParticipantTo be honest and without being arrogant I should have had a lot more, but I was playing around with different rigs and presentation. I was also targeting the specimens. Had it been a match I would have been a little less selective. I have also been using ground vitalin as groundbait, but this needs very careful preparation. The area I was fishing in must be 30′ deep. So its vital that the groundbait stays in the feeder and yet comes out quickly once settled. It also needs to be inert, but only to a degree, because i worked out that by adding a good handfull of dry mix to the already well inert dampened mix, gave it extra attraction. Not so much so there was groundbait everywhere, but just enough so it must have created a nice cloud, as i definitely got bites far quicker this way.
The best rig was by far a very simple free running dreenan gripmeash with a buffer bead and a snap link swivel at the end of the shock leader. To this I attached various hooklengths but 12″ with hair rigged double corn was best. I had a few on a mini pop up boilie, but i know worms are deadly. The braid is a revelation, first time i have used it and i cant believe how many bites we must not even see with mono. Everything is so direct.
Whilst walking back to the car, at the very source of the lake its very overgrown with trees, bushes etc, I saw what i can only describe as a massive carp feeding in the margin, silt and bubbles everywhere. I’ll be back after her next time. 😀

TF_baitchefParticipantAlright Si, Fish were in lovely condition. The bigger ones have a solid frame but are quite lean, in a well fed carp pool they would be right lumps. I was up the arm yes, but the other side, the first peg you come too just before the point. Bit better sheltered here from the wind, which lets just say was quite strong 😉
Aparantly a couple of lads, later on in the early evening had some perch pushing 3lb from outside the boathouse. -

TF_Simon PThats a long walk!!!
Loads of big perch coming out, there was a club match on around two weeks ago along the Devon Bank, so my mate fished the Cornish Bank opposite the quarry…..
He fished the feeder and had Bream & Silvers for 50lb’ish but also had 10-12 perch for 25lb+
I love Tamar, just shame there arnt more open matches on the place, seems that folk dont want to walk to do proper fishing these days!!!

TF_PaddySounds heavanly – Bream slabs and 3lb Perch – my sort of place.
Funny enough, i was watching TimeTeam last night on the telly and they were digging up bones next to the river Tamar – Is Tamar Lake any thing to do with river Tamar?
Which type of braid was it BaitChef? -

TF_baitchefParticipantSi, I spoke to the bailiff about the matches and i’m deffo fishing what I can next year.
Paddy I believe it is part of the source of the River Tamar yes.
The braid i use is this:
But its out of stock now (not surprising at £6 incl free delivery.
I have to say I’m no braid expert but this stuff is very good. It sinks just like mono.
Apparently there is some good Chinese stuff about on ebay, Fred’s yer man on this stuff though.
