strange but true! what would you do?

  Last Sunday there was a match at Lingmere fishery on the Wirral (Conah’s quay AC). One of the anglers hooked a fish and was playing it – then it suddenly went very slow and heavy, after carefully playing it to the net a barbel of around 2-3lb popped up snagged on a plastic bag. The net went under the barbel and the bag had to be lifted up because it was to heavy – probably because it contained approx 30lb of big barbel!!!
  The angler only weighed in the one on the hook and put the rest back – other anglers on the bank said they would of weighed them all in.
  
  Never heard of anything like this before.
  
  Would you have tried to weigh them in?
  Is there a rule preventing them being weighed – they were caught on one hook after all?

  was it a lidl bag or a big one?
  maybe it was from NETTO?

  Totally true, it was witnessed by other anglers and several bank walkers.

  last may i was at the oaks on cedar lake and hooked a barbel across in 18 inch of water when it was under my feet i scooped at it as i could’nt see it but came up with another barbel of 3lb whilst i still had the one i hooked on.
  eventually it was landed,the first one was put back and the second one weighed in.

  oaks two year ago i netted an f1 and when i lifted it out there TWO others in with it.i only weighed the one with the hook in it.was the smallest as well~sick ~sick .where ya been fishing mark.

  I could understand one being stuck but there were seven or eight fish in the bag up to 5 -6lb. I’ve heard of barbel undercutting far banks and shoaling up there maybe they were using it as a shelter in the same way?
  
  Spadger is a regular at Lingmere and will be able to confirm this is true.

  If you think about it, stone loach which look like mini barbel spend all their daylight hours under stones, corrugated iron, old tins etc. They only come out at night to feed. My guess is that the fish were in there as the only cover but I don’t know the fishery.

  This is totally true, my mate was fishing the match and saw the Barbel in the bag, UNBELIEVABLE.
  
  I’ve come across the same sort of thing when I’ve fished sea fishin matches, I once witnessed an angler reel in 4 Dogfish on a 2 hook rig, 2 of them were hooked fair and square but the other 2 were tangled in the trace. All 4 fish were counted.

  Absolouty amazing!
  as for the stone loach, i have pulled trees out of my lake and found them in the roots!
  
  As for the Barble, at Hampton Springs, he had a stock pond with Barble in, and netted it 3 times and caught none, so he drained the pond, and found they had dug a hole and were all in the hole!
  
  Fish ‘o’ final venue too, they keep talking about Barble holes, so it proves they are unusual fish!
  
  Would i have put them in my keepnet, yes if no one saw me, lol.

  Andy May whilst fishing a match on Arena pool at Cudmore with the other site scooped a barbel and found a 2lb Tench in his net as well. He put the tench back and weighed the barbel.

  Can believe it, a couple of winters ago my mate hooked a plastic bag which contained 3 small barbel and a ide. This was on a pleasure session they were the only fish he had.

  Firstly, I don’t believe that any match anglers if not seen, would put them back, they’d be straight in the old Onion sack ! LOL
  
  Many years ago at Witley Park the crucians on the small lake would often follow a hooked fish to the net, when I was a junior (yes, a long long time ago) I had many a Two crucian put in when I also netted the one following the hooked fish. Of course I put the other one back and wouldn’t have even dreamt of putting it in my keepnet !
