The poles (and serbs and czechs for that matter) are all excellent bleak anglers, and there is nothing surprising about their success in a match where bleak was so dominant. I guess the main difference may actually have been the team tactics as I know that England were looking for bigger fish, while other countries may have had an all-out bleak tactic. On the other hand, Germany had their best result in years, and they were targeting the bigger fish, and succeeding by landing carp both days in C-sector. In my opinion the end of the sectors were key to success, you had a better chance of scoring low. With this in mind, there is no doubt that some countries and anglers had better draws than their counterparts.
Although Sean’s description of the bleak in Morava is very accurate, it is also important to note that bleaking using the pole rather than whips were very important. Czech star Petr Klasek were fishing bleak at 11m on saturday, which is quite impressive considering he would have to feed a tiny nugget of bleak groundbait at that distance, while holding the pole in one hand and STILL fish it so well that he ended up with 251 fish in 4 hours. In reality bleaking is a study in efficiency, and a lot of countries have room for improvement in this area.
