like with many as the current financial situation still grips us my funds are a bit tight so i,m having to look at cheaper options at the moment, bummer.I was wandering if any of the avanti kit from used tackle is any good, has anyone got any? such as 16,mtr pole £200 or the seatbox £200? is the stuff any good or just cheap and nasty tack, your opinions would be appreciated thanks.

You get what you pay for in my opinion.

I was pegged next to a guy on a club match at Gold Valley last week, he had bought a pole from them.

He couldn’t even get the sections from within each other to put it together. I would personally avoid

Had a few in the shop I run asking if we can get Avanti bits for them as rods boxes and poles had broken on them.

My advice is look else where. Only my opinion though.

Tintin, Loads of good stuff out there, Drennan do some fantastic rods at bargain prices, their Red Range is particularly good for the money, Poles I would look at the Daiwa SR Range again good poles for ya wonger. As for boxes don’t be afraid to look second hand there are some top bargains to be had.
              Best of luck.

“You get what you pay” for always makes me smile. Particularly when my wife trots it out to justify paying over the odds for another pair of shoes. Of course it’s true that you get what you pay for, unless you pinch it, but there are some great bargains out there, thanks to China. You don’t have to pay top dollar if you shop around.
I wouldn’t as a rule spend my money without seeing what I was buying so that rules out Avanti etc. but some of the Shakespeare Mach 1, Drennan Red and Garbolino bottom of the range stuff is stupendous value for money.
And like Average Al says, there are second hand bargains to be had on here.

Boss, Brilo, Matchbox Pyramid and Fox Stax boxes are still great boxes and sell cheaply as they are seen as old fasioned. If you look around you can pick a cracking example up for a bargain price and for less than some new Avanti or Ultimate chat. As for poles I would be weary of buying second hand but your £200 you would have wasted on a Avanti will get you something that is well fishable at 14.5m like a Daiwa 412 or Maver Medusa if you look around.

I did have a look at the avanti as a chap was fishing with one at berkhampstead on the grand union, I asked the chap if I could have a quick go and he obliged at 13mtres it was pretty good and I was impressed with the pole ok heavy and slightly unbalanced at 14.5 but fishable 16 mtres a bit of a beast, but again for 200 I was quite impressed.

Its like every manufacturer/brand you have to sort the wheat from the chaff, I even use some preston bits and bobs

on the subject of boxes and small budgets.
should i pay around £100 for an ultimate box with legs etc. or one of the plastic coffins by daiwa or shakey. and a set of octoplus legs?
must get a new one. mines split right across the bottom from corner to corner. darent use it again lol.
