Report:
With Dynamite Baits Makins Lake Two ice free for the first time in 7 weeks, the first Kobra Wednesday Open of 2011 was fished.
Although everyone had indications (line bites) only three anglers caught from the clear water. After a blank first 90 minutes, Coventry’s Eddie Keene switched to an open ended feeder and double red maggot for an instant response from peg A15, and caught roach and perch until the final whistle to end with 6 lb 10 oz.
The remainder of the field continued to unsuccessfully fish for carp, but a single bream of 2 lb 4 oz from peg B2 on pellet gave Derek Hartshorne (Swann Baits) second place, and a single perch of 1 lb 2 oz, on sweet corn from peg A20, was enough for third for Alan Walton (Swann Baits & Carpet Baggers). Both anglers lost carp and Alan also lost a big perch.
