Looking for a new fleece, what do people recommend, and is it worth looking outside of the angling brands and more into outdoor wear?

think it was leaky lloyd who said the snickers hooded top is the same as the tournement except the name. I got one from screwfix and its the mutts nuts it cost 70 odd quid as i remember

If you want to stop the wind it has to be goretex windstopper. I’ve just retired my first Halkon Hunt one that I bought in 1995. I wore it fishing and for work in the end before the zip gave out.

I have had the new Halkon Hunt soft shell windstopper for a few months now. Its fantastic. I know they are pricey but quality always is. http://www.halkonhunt.org.uk/

i got the tourny soft shell windstopper..
its bang on if not a little expensive!
the snickers one is really good for the money and the quality is every bit as good as the halkon hunt gear too!

For me, Id be looking towards The North Face, Rab or Buffallo.

I would look outside the specialist angling clothing. Whilst some of it is good, the price is extortionate for the garment.

What I do now, is to retire my everyday fleece once my wife tells me it is starting to look shabby (but perfect for fishing) and use that for another 2 or 3 years.

WD a proper windstopper is not just a fleece. I work outside surveying and they are the bizz all weathers for work, fishing or walking and £100 direct is not bad for 15 years wear.

just washed and reproofed my ancient daiwa tournament stuff and it’s as good as new again.
if your going to go out breaking the ice this winter get yourself some proper stuff.
i reckon i’ll probably get ten years out of my stuff so it does’nt really work out that expensive does it?

I don’t get what you guys mean about the snickers fleece. I’m on a budget of 70 quid tops

I got a snickers soft shell hooded jacket from work.I love it so i bought on myself for fishing.Wind proff and water proof.I was wearing it yesterday in a hail storm.A lot of the peaple fishing left after the storm beacause they were frezing cold and wet.I was warm as toast.Try you can get them from a work wear shop for about ~£75-£80.Tey are hard wearing as well.I have worn my work supplied in engineering factorys and crawled all over trains with work it still looks good as new.
