It’s been a slow winter for chub anglers so far, with our mixed conditions making things tricky on many rivers. However, Steve Fenton managed to get out on the Lee Navigation lately – a canalised stretch of the River Lea – and landed this specimen of 7lb 12oz.

The fish came on his only bite of a session in which he fished four different swims.

Bread was the successful bait, with Steve fishing a piece of flake on a size 8 hook on a fluorocarbon hooklink.

This was presented below a feeder packed with liquidised feed.

Interestingly, Steve noticed that the fish has a distinct orange tinge to its lower lip, making it an easy individual to identify over the coming years.
