REPORT

MOLANDS   The colder weather has really affected sport badly on Molands with weights in matches low at the moment.  Pleasure anglers through the week found the F1’s, skimmers and tench the most obliging with pole fished caster and maggot working best fished down the first shelf at 4 – 6 metres. Best pegs have been 1 – 4, 17 – 19, 29 -33 and 44 – 46.

GEARYS   As with all of the pools the night time frosts have affected sport on Gearys.  On the milder days, the skimmers have fed well with catches to 50lb in matches and these have mainly been caught around the high bank area in the deeper water.  Worm, caster or expander pellet fished at 10 – 13 metres has been most productive but a few carp are falling to the cone or teabag with corn or bread punch on the hook.

LITTLE GEARYS    The weights are lower but still plenty of fish being caught all around the pool with F1’s to 1lb and skimmers making up most of the catches.  Pellet or caster fished at 8 – 10 metres has been the best tactic with the method feeder fished up to the island worth a try.  Top pegs 1 – 4, 7 – 11 and 28 – 30.

GRATUITIES   Still some cracking tench coming out with fish to 5lb showing on worm or caster on the long pole.  Plenty of small carp between 1 and 2lb coming to a pellet feeder or small method fished tight up to the middle island with meat, pellet or punched bread on the hook.  Best pegs 1 – 6, 8, 11 and 15 – 16.

ANNIVERSARIES    The most consistent pool over the past week with lots of roach, skimmers and small carp showing to pole fished caster, maggot or small expander pellets.  The best areas have been the top end along the point from pegs 1 – 6 and the lawn area on 15 – 17.

WILLOW   The pick of the small pools with roach, F1’s, skimmers and a few carp coming out.  Caster, maggot and expander pellet all producing a few fish with pegs 1- 6 in good form.

ANGLING TIMES COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL

The Fishery along with Barston Lakes hosted the final of the Shimano/Angling Times County Championship on Sunday with 130 anglers fishing at Packington.  The first heavy frost of the autumn really affected sport with Anniversaries the pick of the pools and the best weight on the Packington complex was a 41lb bag of carp from peg 1.  South Yorkshire won the event and £10,000, narrowly pipping Northants into second place.  Local team Warwickshire came 6th out of 44 teams.

REPORT

MOLANDS   The colder weather and a lot of angler pressure made sport very difficult on Molands last week.  30lb was a good net with the skimmers and F1’s making up the nets and chopped worm and caster, either on the long pole or in a small cage feeder has been the most affective tactic.  Only the odd carp coming out but there was an 18½lb leather reported which came off peg 19 and fell to meat fished right across to the island.  Best areas are 10 – 14, 19 – 25, 29 – 33 and 43 – 48.

GEARYS   The high bank has been the most productive area either fishing for skimmers on pole with pellet or chopped worm/caster or a method feeder out to the middle post with dead red maggot or meat on the hook.  Catches of skimmers went to over 50lb with the early pegs on the high bank fishing best from 1 – 10.

LITTLE GEARYS    Although the big match at the weekend was won with just over 31lb, Little Gearys fished really well to pleasure anglers, fishing it earlier in the week.  Most found a small feeder to the island with meat or corn on the hook working best for carp to 6lb and F1’s to 4lb.  A lot of people practicing for the big final at the weekend, fished with chopped worm and caster and found lots of fish particularly decent skimmers, roach, F1’s and a few tench.   The early pegs from 1 round to 10 were best but fish are being caught from all around the pool.

GRATUITIES   Again quite a few anglers trying out for the County Championships found sport excellent through the week but the frost on Saturday night slowed things down.  During the week anglers fishing the method up to the island caught well and pole fished long with pellet or caster and worm was the successful method.  Pegs 1, 8, 9, 15 and 16 are fishing well.

ANNIVERSARIES    If you want lots of bites this is the pool with bream to 3lb, lots of skimmers, roach, small carp and a few tench going well.  Pellet was working best early in the week but as the weather cooled chopped worm, caster and maggot began to dominate.  The best pegs are 1 – 6, 10, 15 and 18 – 23.

WILLOW   Surprisingly Willow fished better shallow, with caster or pellet catching F1’s, skimmers, roach, carp and even a few tench coming right up in the water.  Best pegs are 1, 5, 6, 10 and 11.

REPORT

MOLANDS   As the weather gets more autumnal, the catches are starting to lower on Molands.  There are lots of anglers practising for the County Championship final and the most popular tactic has been the chopped worm and caster on the pole at 10 – 13 metres.  This has accounted for nets to 40lb+ of skimmers, F1’s, crucians and a few tench.  Chopped worm and caster on the feeder has also been working reasonably well and the pellet feeder is the best tactic for carp to 8lb.  Top pegs are 2 – 12, 26 – 33, 43 – 46 and
56 – 60.

GEARYS   The warmer weather at the start of the week saw carp feeding on the shallow end of the pool.  A fishery regular fished the straight lead and pellet and caught 14 fish from 3 – 8lb off peg 21.  As the week went on, the high bank became the favoured area with skimmers making up the bulk of the catches but there were also a number of carp being caught along pegs 7 – 15.  Pole with chopped worm and caster or expander pellet has been working best.

LITTLE GEARYS    Like most pools the catches have dropped but Little Gearys offers the most consistent sport with F1’s, skimmers, tench and crucians being caught all around the pool.  Chopped worm and caster, pellet or small pieces of meat on the pole at 7 – 12 metres has been the best tactic but you can’t ignore the method feeder fished to the island.  Top pegs are 7 – 11, 19 – 21 and 24 – 29.

GRATUITIES   Pegs 1, 8 – 12 and 16 have been fishing best with a small method feeder or pellet feeder fished to the island accounting for the better catches with carp to 1 – 5lb and tench to 4lb picking up meat, dead reds or small white boilies.  The pole is catching plenty of crucians, roach, tench and a few carp to pellet and fish are still being caught short at 3 – 4 metres out.

ANNIVERSARIES    Mainly silver fish with skimmers, roach, tench and crucians feeding best but there are a few pockets of small carp that have been giving good sport on a few pegs.  The top end on the point from pegs 1 – 8 has been the most consistent area with pole fished pellet, worm and caster accounting for the better catches.

WILLOW   Long pole with pellet over micros or chopped worm and caster has been the best tactic accounting for mixed nets of skimmers, roach crucians, F1’s and small carp.  The bigger carp are keeping tight to the island with a small feeder picking off fish to 8lb with meat, pellet or dead maggot on the hook.

SIBLINGS   This pool is more patchy with the top end fishing the best opposite the reed beds or on the big point.  Skimmers and crucians are providing the best chance of sport with small expanders fished over ground bait or micro pellets working best.

FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 3/10/10

Last week 168 rods caught 298 fish for an average of 2.48.

The best rainbow of the week was an 11lb fish caught by a Mr Wiltshire of Sutton Coldfield who took it on a Cats Whisker fished on a floating line and was the best of a five fish bag taken from Cocks Close.  Mr Peddle of Standlake fished catch and release from the bank of Cocks Close and caught 13 fish to over 6lb and these all came to a Bloodworm pattern.  Alan Prime of Nuneaton caught five and released a further two on small black gold head Lures fished from a boat on Cocks Close.

On the members’ water Park Meadow, Ray Martin of Sutton Coldfield took five fish to 4lb on small black Buzzers and GRHE Nymph fished on a floating line.

Cocks Close has been improving all week with the fish moving all around the pool but the windward banks have been the hotspots.  The road bank and the old boat jetty corner have been fishing well.  On the members’ waters, Park Meadow is the pick of the pools but Great Pool is now clearing and there were some good catches off there last week.

Best patterns are Damsel Nymph, Cats Whisker, Bloodworm, black or red Buzzer, GRHE, Nomads and sunken Daddy Long Legs.

The fishery will be holding its Autumn Open on Saturday 23rd October.  Tickets will be £25.00 which will include a two fish ticket, catch and release and prizes.

REPORT

MOLANDS   The heavy rain over the last few days certainly made the fishing a little harder and Molands more peggy.  The low number pegs from 1 – 10, the top end on 25 – 33 and around Scarecrow Point from 43 – 47 have been the best areas.  Carp, F1’s, tench and skimmers have been showing with nets from 20 – 40lb being caught on caster or pellet on the long pole at 10 – 13 metres or a small pellet feeder fished across to the island with pellet, punched bread and meat on the hook.

GEARYS   It has been a strange week, one day fishing hard and the next fishing its head off.  Match weights to 100lb were caught with the skimmers providing the bulk of the catches on pole and pellet or caster, usually starting long at 11 – 13 metres and then catching short towards the end of the match.  Pleasure anglers have enjoyed good sport fishing close in with paste or pellet down the edge.  The carp have been coming to straight lead and pellet fished at 20 – 30 yards out with single or double 8mm pellet on the hook.  Best pegs have been the high bank from 10 -1 5 and 8 – 20.

LITTLE GEARYS    Although it has been a little harder this week, Little Gearys has still given the most consistent action with F1’s, skimmers and carp being caught.  The best approach was the pellet feeder fished tight up to the island with dead reds, meat or pellet on the hook.  The pole is still working but the fish are pushing away from the near margins and long pole at 8 – 12 metres with pellet or caster is taking some good catches.  Best pegs are 7 – 11, 17 – 21 and 25 – 28.

GRATUITIES   The road side has been very popular this week with good nets of tench, carp and crucians coming to pole fished pellet or a small feeder out to the island.  Tench to over 6lb reported and carp to 8lb also coming out.  Best pegs are 1, 8, 9, 15 and 16.

ANNIVERSARIES    The top end in the big bay from pegs 1 – 6 is the best area with skimmers, tench, crucians and small carp showing to pole and pellet, caster or maggot.
A small open end feeder fished under the high bank is also working well.

WILLOW   Fished a bit harder this week as the water turned a little clearer.  Fine lines with a small expander pellet or caster is working best for crucians, skimmers and F1’s.  You need to beef up a bit for the carp and a small pellet feeder tight against the island is best for fish to 10lb.

SIBLINGS   A bit quieter in terms of anglers but those that fished Siblings last week were rewarded with some good nets of crucians and skimmers mainly but a few tench and carp also showing close into the margin with corn, pellet or tiny pieces of meat the best tactics.  The reed beds at the top end of the pool or either of the two points are the best areas.
