Coventry tackle shop owner and bait breeder Alan Lane has passed away after suffering a heart attack.

He passed into a coma in hospital and never regained consciousness.

Alan’s father was former world match fishing champion Billy Lane, a man some regard as the best angler of his era.

The shop name is WH Lane (Billy’s dad), who started a tackle shop in Coventry over 100 years ago. The shop was passed onto Billy, who died in his mid 50s.

Alan moved the shop to its current premises on London Road. He ran the biggest maggot farm in the Midlands, moving that to its current location in Claverdon, Warwickshire.

Lanes supply all the tackle shops in the Midlands and are widely regarded as producing the best maggots and casters in the country, something Alan was very proud of.

A keen salmon angler, he leaves a wife, two sons and three daughters. His funeral takes place on January 2nd, 2009.
