IF you are impressed with the £25,000 first prize on offer in our Fish O Mania final, maybe you need broader horizons.

For bass anglers in the States are currently polishing their lures in readiness for a match where the winner will take home a cool $100,000.

The Citgo BASSMATER Tour event takes place this weekend on Lake Okeechobee lake in South Florida, where 175 professional bass anglers are expected to go head to go head to head.

“This can definitely be the best time of year to fish on Okeechobee,” said nine-time BASSMASTER Angler of the Year Roland Martin.
“With the full moon this week, if we have some good weather there will be a spawn. Right now the lake is on the edge of a spawn and if we have 70-degree air temperatures to get the water up to around 65 or so, then a lot of people will catch 15-pound limits.

The tournament will be fished Thursday through Sunday. The pros will be paired with 175 amateurs the first two days and then the field will be cut to the top 12 pros and amateurs after Friday’s round and their weights will be cleared. The amateurs finish Saturday while the top six pros carry over their Saturday weights to Sunday’s final round.
