The latest River Wye open on the popular Belmont match length at Hereford saw some incredible action with 45 of the 50 competitors recording double figures, and 35 of these put over 20lb onto the scales and 35 weighed over 20lb. Even the normally regarded poor areas saw roach weights over 30lb recorded.
Match winner was current Wye champion Colin Harvey who fished a brilliant match at Peg 82 to win with a stick float and maggot caught 73-14-0. 50lb of this was roach with perch, dace and chub making up the total.
Second was Tony Birt at Peg 86 with 69-12-0 of roach, dace and perch, again taken on stick float and maggot. Third was Lee Edwards with 67-15-0 of chub and roach from Peg 80. Fourth was the in-form Andrew ‘Spud’ Murphy with 63-15-0 of dace from Peg 58.
