The latest Angling Trust RiverFest qualifier for 2014 took place on the River Don on Saturday 30th August with two zones at Sprotborough & one at the much fancied Denaby length with 55 anglers fishing.

The river had risen 8 inches overnight and rose further during the match which hampered the roach fishing so skimmers made up most of the frame weights.

The winner Shaun Wright fishing for Daiwa Dons drew the fancied C zone at the Denaby stretch and had a great match catching around 10 lb of skimmers up to a pound and a half on groundbait feeder supplementing them further with another 5 lb of similar stamp fish on flat float at 13 metres for a weight of 15 lbs 9oz.

In second place in B zone at Sprotborough was venue regular Shaun Rampling from Langold near Worksop. Shaun had two bream of 3 lb and 4 lb in the second half of the match on groundbait feeder & worm hook bait supplemented with small skimmers & hybrids for 13 lb 6 oz.

Third place, but unfortunately missing out on a qualifying place was Andy Dargue from Darlington who also drew at Denaby downstream of the winner and weighed 11 lb 9 oz.  The last qualifying place went to Andy Starkey of Mill Tackle with 11 lb from zone A at Sprotborough.

The venue fished well despite the influx of water with all three zones being very close and lots of anglers still being in with a chance right up to the final whistle.
