Fish’O’Mania’s third qualifier of the year made its way northwards to Staffordshire and the popular Heronbrook Fisheries. At the draw 148 anglers made the qualifier another near sell-out showing the resurgence in popularity of the contest this year and it was mild overcast conditions that met the hopeful anglers. This seemed to get the venues resident carp in a lively mood and enticed a few into feeding.

At the all in there few elastics that got a workout straight away and Meadow lake seemed to be the hub of activity with both David Taylor and Jason Brown taking fish early on. This was to set a precedent for the rest of the match with the Jason on peg 14 and David on peg 26 both breaking the 150lb in the five hours.

Having fished the previous round at Tunnel Barn Farm it was second time lucky for the Maver Midlands ace Jason Brown who took the all important first place. Having drawn on some fish Jason fished a conservative match, taking most of his fish on dobbed bread and at the whistle he had 30 Carp and 19 F1s. This gave him an impressive 199lb 1oz and although agonisingly close to the double ton, it was over 40lb clear of the chasing pack!

Finishing in second was David Taylor who made the short trip up from Lutterworth. David also lined up the carp using dobbed bread and landed specimens to 10lb. At the weigh in David put an awesome 156lb 13oz on the scales.

Rounding out the top three was Adam Richards who drew on Pisces, peg four. Adam fished a very different match to the top two to take advantage of the F1s he had in front of him feeding three pints of maggots. Adam ended up with 98lbs 2oz of F1s to 3lb and well deserved his third spot on the day.

Our thanks must go to Neil and his staff at Lindholme for hosting the event and to the tireless work of the Angling Trust match organisers. Our next round is back to the popular Viaduct fishery on the 7th April which is again sold out, however anglers are reminded that tickets are available on spec on the day to replace no shows.
