MATCH ace Derek Willen has been a busy be of late. Fresh from picking up £3000 in a festival at Cootehill, Ireland, the Middleton, Manchester angler scuttled off down south to frame and pick up some more money in the final of the Top Ten Accumlator at Gold Valley.

In between times Derek, who is riding high in the Kamasan Matchman of the Year table, slipped in a pleasure session at Esthwaite Water in the Lake District and bagged this magnificent bag of redfins averging 1lb.

The trout water opens up for coarse fishing during the winter, and although it is almost never fished, has a mouth-watering list of coarse records including roach to 3lb 10oz, pike to 39lb 10oz, rudd to 3lb, eels to 7lb and perch to 4lb 2oz. It makes you wonder what some of the other Lake District trout venues might have to offer.

If you want to know more, give bailiff David Coleman a call on 015394 36541 or email him at trout@hawkshead.demon.co.uk .

David goes over the water regularly with a fish finder and will be able to tell you exactly where the shoals of big roach are, should you wish to visit.
