Monks lakes hosted it’s second and the twentieth round of FishOMania qualification this weekend in sweltering conditions down in Kent. After some big weights from Match Lake 3 in the previous qualifier, many fancied it again on the online draw and the lake once more didn’t disappoint.

It was Adam Southgate who drew in the fancied area on peg 126 on Match Lake 3 and Adam made no mistakes to bag his spot in the 50K final for the first time. Like many Adam started shallow, but after a slow couple of hours, he switched to his margins and bagged proper carp on paste over groundbait. This saw the scales tick around to a massive 209lb 14oz, which saw him well clear of the field. Adam commented, “Elated doesn’t even describe it”.

Second on the day from peg 94 on Match Lake 3 was the ever-consistent Simon Skelton. Simon has spent a busy day mugging and catching fish shallow on pellet for 158lb 4oz.

Rounding out the top three was Peter Upperton, who drew on peg 163 on Match Lake 4. Peter started his match by dobbing ten good carp shallow and then has added F1s and smaller carp shallow at 16m on pellet. At the weigh in these went 157lb 4oz for the final place on the podium

Many thanks to Morgan and his team on an excellent match and to Andre Grandjean for stepping in at late notice to run the match. Our next qualifier is at Heronbrook Fisheries on Wednesday and tickets for this can still be purcahed on the New Website.
