How about this for a zander? The 90cm long predator came not from the UK but from Northern Germany where Zebco angler Fredrik Harbort tempted it from seven metres down in water temperature of only four degrees using a 20cm long Freddie Shad lure.

German anglers tend to measure their fish rather than weigh them, and a zander of 90cm in length would probably weigh just under 20lb.

Since then he’s had an even bigger one measuring just 2cm short of a metre! That would have weighed up to 24lb, a lot bigger than the British record of 21lb 5oz caught from the River Severn in 2007.
