South Africa hosts superb world shore champs as England finish sixth and Brazil take the gold.

CIPSed Ladies World Shore Championships – Langebaan, South Africa
The Angling Trust Ladies’ England Shore team managed by Stuart Withyman, consisted of Avril Withyman, Pauline Ferry, Adele Smith, Jo Hyde, Rachael Jarman and Wendy Metcalfe. The Ladies’ England team considered this CIPSed Ladies World Championship in Langebaan, South Africa held from 6th – 14th November 2010 as probably one of the best ever World Championships. The weather conditions were good: clear skies with sun and clear waters which provided plenty of fish to be caught making it a perfect recipe for a World Championship.
Pauline Ferry had a match result that most anglers only dream about with 48 fish caught, around 90lb in a 4 hour session, but unfortunately didn’t win her section.

However, she did win a trophy for the most fish caught by a competitor. Pauline finished in fourth position overall, just missing out on the medals to Luiza Sano from Brazil in third position. Team England Ladies’ were unlucky not to finish in team medal position, but achieved a very creditable 6th place. It was Brazil who took home the gold medal with a magnificent Championship win ahead of Croatia, last year’s Championship holders.
Team Results:
1st – Brazil
2nd – Croatia
3rd – Italy
6th – England
Individual Results:

Stuart Withyman, Angling Trust England Team Manager said “The overall team result of sixth place does not reflect the total commitment and gutsy determination shown by all the ladies. I myself as Manager, feel very privileged to have been included in such a fantastic World Championship this year. I would also like to thank our sponsors as without their support the financial commitment might have been out of reach for the team; Marks & Spencers who provided the team’s new uniform, Snows Timer (Glastonbury) for their generous donation, Varivas for supplying fluorocarbon line and hooks, Gemini for providing clips and swivies and to Colmic Diawa and AnyfishAnywhere for providing rods.

The Ladies’ England Shore team would like to thank the host nation, South Africa for their hospitality; they provided transport, accommodation and meals for the team and also supplied a local angling guide to assist with tackle, baits and fish identification.
