THE National Federation of Anglers’ knockout team competition is ‘dead in the water’ unless a new sponsor can be found.

NFA spokesman Rodney Couldron made the admission to Midland Angler after revealing that the 2004 sponsors, Builder Center, had pulled out for 2005 and that no replacement has been found.

“Builder Center did only take the competition on for a year. We were quietly confident about them extending the deal after they made very positive noises following the final, which everyone thought was very successful,” he said.

“However, unfortunately they have not renewed and we have not been able to find a new sponsor at this time. Sadly if we don¹t get a replacement sponsor the competition is dead in the water, as we can’t run it without backing.”

The news will come as a blow to many, especially some of the region’s smaller clubs, that had already started to regard it as part of their fishing calendar.
