A row has erupted over the removal of specimen carp from a popular stretch of Midlands Canal.

As Total-Fishing.com understand its, a deal was struck between the Dams and Lock club and British Waterways to electro-fish the club’s section of the Birmingham Fazeley Canal.

Initially the idea was to remove pike in a bid to improve the silver fish sport, but Total-Fishing.com gathers that around 30 carp to 25lb were also taken in a swap deal for roach and gudgeon.

This has caused a furore among carp anglers who have been fishing the canal for the big carp on the quiet and regarded the venue as offering some of the best canal carp fishing in the Midlands.

The issue is being played out in the angling press and has resulted in an online petition being created to ‘stop the de-stocking of carp from UK canals’.
