REPORTS are coming in thick and fast of quality cod showing from noted marks around the country.
Biggest fish from the boat is a 31-pounder, taken from a mark a mile off the Needles, IOW aboard the Keyhaven based boat ‘Seaquest’. The lucky angler at the end of the rod was Southampton’s Mark Knight, who Pennel rigged double squid.
Meanwhile Isle of Wight angler Alan Deeming was chuffed to bits with four cod of 26lb 11oz, 18lb, 17lb and 15lb he took from his own boat while fishing south of The Nab. Pennel rigged double squid again did the damage.
We’ve also had reports of three more 20lb cod taken off the Needles, but it’s not the only mark in form.
Newbury, Berks shore angler Peter Bowen proved the point during a session at Dungeness Lighthouse, Kent, taking a 15lb cod among a big bag of codling, big whiting and flatfish, with all the fish falling for frozen squid.
Other marks producing big cod include Admiratly Pier in Dover, Ogmore-by-Sea, Bridgend and Hurst Castle shingle bank.
