Ellingham Sluice near Bungay on the Norfolk/Suffolk border is now a safer place for all anglers, thanks to the Environment Agency which has constructed a new fishing platform with improved, safer access.
The new platform has been installed on an area of land next to the water control sluices and provides free public access for fishing. It is a popular area that is now much safer for users.
Money from fishing licences has been used to fund the platform which has been designed for use by all members of the public but provides particularly safe access for wheelchair users.
Bungay Cherry Tree Angling Club helped design the platform and the parish council gave its full backing for the improvements.
Additional improvements, just completed, have been funded from Environment Agency health and safety funding under a five-year review aimed at improving safety around its sluices.
