I am down in Newark area this weekend from friday till Sunday and wanted to fish the trent hoping for a barbel, was considering a go at collingham on the friday.
I had thought about the a1 pits stretch with the view that i could fish the pits if the trent was out of sorts due to low water.
THing is i get the impression the pits are out and out bivvy boy teritory and i am a match/pleasure angler been fishing for 40+ years bivvy boy waters aint my cup of tea realy.Could anyone suggest which would be the best pit to fish to avoid bivvies should i need a back up venue, or any other still waters close to Newark that are pleasure angler friendly.

        Thanks the crumb

There was extra water and big tides on the Tidal Trent this weekend. Head for the sunken barge peg with the A1 pits behind you. Sapphire lakes used to be ok, just up the A1 at Cromwell

+1 for sapphire lakes match lake.
it’s a few years since i’ve been but it was bursting with carp then.

dont bother with sapphire, gin clear , a club in our village had a match there and the lad whom won it had two crap. its not like it used to be.

Theres 6 lakes at A1 pits matey, and if i remember rightly pit 4 had a massive load of bream put in approx 6 yrs ago, Only 3 of the lakes are used for carp fishing so plenty of room to go at for pleasure fishing without being tangled up with the lads using 3 rods..lol..

from what i can remember pits 1 and pits 4 have a lot of bream in.
pit 1 is the only one to allow keepnets and is more a general mixed fishery so it should be bivvy free , while pit 4 does have a lot of big carp in so may get the bivvy boys on it.

                    hope this helps!
