I told my old man about BOS closing down he was shocked as hell, he said they were the first mail order tackle dealer he bought from, I asked him what did he buy from them, many of you will not of heard of this fella or the famouse rod. Well he said he bought a Dick Walker split cane rod, same one that he cought the 44lb carp with lol, and then he said he still has the rod omg must be worth a few quid now.

I remember him having the rod but not seen it for years, must have been the mid to late 60’s when he bought the rod, I will have a look to see if I can get a pic of one, shame really as the place has been in buisness years and years

The ACTUAL Mark IV Avon rod that Dick Walker caught Clarissa on is owned by angling historian, Chris Ball (from memory). There was a range of Mark IV avon rods made by B James & son rod builders that are fetching around £300 at the moment if in immaculate condition.

the hexagonal cross section is the same with all split cane rods, that’s the way they used to build them
