Hi All

is it me or are magazines getting to expensive?

dont get me wrong i love advance, and match fishing because i have learnt so much from them.
So this is not a rant because i will continue buying them because they are good but 4.25 is alot of money for a magazine and must put some people off buying them especialy youngsters.

hope this is not a negative post just hope they dont increase in price again thats all i mite think twice if they do.

the october issue was only £3.25 so the free dvd is not so free . commercial fishing doesnt interest me so why should i pay the extra for a dvd i probably wont even watch ~think i will give the november issue a miss

The latest issue is only that price because of the dvd but i think next month will be back to normal.

I have had subscriptions to both bought as presents for the last few years so don’t actually pay for them myself. I suppose they are quite expensive to some of the younger anglers, thats why i give mine away when i have read them. If i had to buy them myself i probably wouldn’t bother, i enjoy reading them but some of the articles do seem to ‘do the rounds’ so to speak and it is quite rare that the articles show you a totally new way of doing something.

I picked a mountain bike mag up recently and it was over a fiver i think as i compaired with apf

I guess pricing reflects the times. I subscribe which IMO is an excellent deal. The DVD was pointless for me as I already have it but I daresay for others it might be a/the reason to buy APF.

I do think increasingly Geeps fishing TV concept will grow and indeed so will weekly blogs by marquee names. I like reading a paper magazine but are it’s days numbered and there are advantages to televised / online media.

i have to say i was a little disappointed with this months match fishing with 60 pages of advertising.
also i’ve never really figured out why our mags are £4.00 ish whilst girls mags are around £1.50.
mind you i suppose we get our money back with our hair.
£150 for a haircut jeez i’ve not spent that on my hair since i left school ~think

The snowboard mags I occasionally buy are 5 quid and up, given both match fishing and pole fishing are under 4 quid they’re some of the cheaper mags around.

That said, I think all the magazines are over priced. Mind you, none are as overpriced as angling times!!!

I stopped buying it after the issue where mark pollard was fishing for pike on the pole surley they could have commisionred an angler of his calibre to do something better !

Easy, PF is a specialist mag aimed at a niche market with little competition. Girly mags i.e. womans own etc are aimed at a massive audience which is ultra competitive.

I am happy with the pricing as no other fishing mag mag is dedicated to pole fishing which i love. We would moan more if it did not exist like we do about the lack of match angling coverage on TV. Good job PF, keep it coming i say.

Regarding advertisements. Allot of people are putting their gear in the attic for the winter right now. Allot of new products get released right now also. I bet this is the time of the year when sales are at there lowest so they need to sustain.

Put it up to a fiver a month and i will still get it. i want to support all pole/match fishing related press/coverage as it is my only interest outside family life and work.

thing is i allready have the dvd by john arthur so didnt need it.

i am gutted though cuz i have lost my advance pole mag went to the hospital with my mrs and have left it in the waiting room whats more i have only read the steve ringer vs neil manchin feature which was awesome but i am not buying it again.

The pricing of my rugby magazines is the same as the angling ones but the subscription deal is fabulous with DHP. Oddly APF was damn hard to buy locally whereas everybody stocked MF.

Well done to DHP I thought it was a splendid idea and hope they do this again, to get a DVD of our top anglers fishing, showing the methods they fish on certain venues was excellant, the cost of the dvd if bought was £9.99, I am very pleased to have obtained a copy for just an extra quid on the mag, lets hope they do this again very soon.

mind you having seen the vid I am glad I never paid £9.99 for it, it was clearly obvious to me that Jon Arthur overfed his peg, mind you having Harrell sitting on your shoulder couldn’t have helped !
