angler drowns at willingshurst

SAD NEWS local cranliegh angler so im told went to retrieve lost sections in one of the lakes on his own, un aided in chest waders and was later found by onsite staff member. Police are taking statements from various people .
Please take care anglers, why does it take a accident like this to make us so aware of what seems to be a easy task cost a life my condolences goes out to this anglers family .PLEASE DONT ,A SECTION OF POLE IS NOT WORTH YOUR LIFE

Had the horrible experience on a local commercial this week of watching a kid (supervised and encouraged by his father), go in up to his chest to retrieve a few sections of pole because he had been asleep in his speci chair when one of the resident carp took it in.

I told the father not to let him go in but he ignored me and thank goodness all ended well but I’ve never seen anything so reckless considering the track was over five foot deep. Their only concern was to recover four sections of a 50 quid pole and “get the ******* fish.”

Frank Smith was the mans name,he has been my fishing partner for 35yrs.I found him along with the fishery manager who deserves a lot of credit for his actions.Also the Air Ambulance/Police and all the emergency services tha arrived so quickly and acted so professional and respectfull,you all have my thanks and gratitude.Frank has been an angler around the Guldford area all his 69yrs and my best mate for 35yrs.I shall post the funeral details on here with( the sites permission)or you can contact me Colin Jordan 07816768219

It is with great sadness that I have to tell you that on the Wednesday 18th August committee member Frank Smith (The Professional) sadly past away after a tragic accident & our deepest sympathies & condolences got out to his family.
Frank was an active member of our angling society & has been a member of the committee for many years. He regularly attended work parties, clearing paths & swims of overgrown vegetation even when there wasn’t a work party.
Frank always had something to say at the committee meeting & his dry wit always lightened the atmosphere, especially his banter with fellow committee members.
He was an excellent fisherman, especially on the pole & he would like nothing more than a keepnet full of silver fish. Often you would hear a muffled curse as a carp smashed up his light pole tackle.
Franks opinions, humour, hard work & passion for fishing will be sadly misses by his friends & fellow anglers & most of all his family.

Today we said goodbye to our dear friend Frank Smith.Thank you to Total Fishing for this forum and to all who passed on their sympathies
it meant a great deal to his family.Thank you to Willinghurst staff Jason-Paul-Bob and all the anglers who donated to his flowers,the card with all your names in was very special.
You all made a difference, friends we know and friends we have yet to meet.
