TF_paulDHeard a rumour in the shop today the Maver are going to start selling tackle direct to punters from their website. Poles to start but is bound to end up as everything eventually.
My local shop is seriously f***** off about it as the last thing tackle shops need is another direct seller, Dragon, Ultimate & co are hitting shop business as it is.
I think this could be the beginning of the end for local shops – think i’ll setup a mail-order maggot business. -

TF_stevie bIf they were to start doing this then there is a chance the dealers could refuse to stock their products.
Means they could loose out in the long term. I like the ease of buying mail order but if I cannot check out a product first hand then then I would probably not purchase it.

TF_TickleThey will sell direct but the products will be sent to the customers nominated local tackle shop for collection by the customer and that tackle shop will benefit.

but how long before they cut out the “middle-man” – they can sell cheaper and make even more £££ then. What purpose will the shop serve apart from being a postal address and picking up any complaints?
Suppose it has to happen like with everything else we buy – a few more charity shops in each town.

TF_Sharp HookI suppose this means that you won’t get tackle below the RRP buying this way.

TF_paulDCant negotiate with a website. But I suppose if they cut out the middleman the gear will be cheaper anyway. Maybe Diawa will be next and sell poles straight from factory to angler, they already do it with spares.

missymaggottGot Steve Mayo (Maver) in the shop now. Its good for the angler and the tackle shop!.
The angler will be able to buy off the Maver web site and get interest free credit!!!!
And collect the item fron their local tackle shop. The shop will then get their commision.
NO SELLING DIRECT.
Just helping out both shops and customers in difficult times. -

TF_kid_aCould be good for the smaller shops that wouldnt sell many of the more expensive items like poles etc.. Due to not being able to stock a large range of poles..

TF_scarfI suppose it will mean more shops able to have a Maver account and ‘sell’ the more expensive Maver gear, and more outlets for Maver.
Presumably if the purchase is with Maver the contractual liability is with Maver and the shop will be just a collection and delivery point for returns. -

TF_Lee WoodI don’t understand why big pole companies haven’t adopted the furniture showroom type model…
Where there is one of each model at the showroom (In this case select tackle shops) and then the retailer orders poles when the customers place orders… Either they are delivered directly to the customer, or just to the retailer.
I think some pole manufacturers would sell ALOT more poles that way… And certainly in areas in which they are perhaps not as strong…
THere are only a few tackle shops in the country that can afford to tie up 20k+ in poles of which they only earn a few quid on.
I can remember selling Tournament poles back in 2000/1 with a £50-100 mark up! Hardly worth the effort!
Disadvantage for the tackle shops, due to cost and risk of having so many poles out in the shops which are not paid for, there could only be a few premier retailers up and down the country, which would mean smaller retailers might loose even more trade due to having to send the customer to the local premier retailer to take a look. Then there would be the priority to the premier retailers…
