I put a question out last week about the new Garbolino Gmax C1 and got one reply. I walked a couple of local fisheries last weekend and didn’t see anyone with a C1 or any of the M range.

Was just wondering have pole sales been hit that much lately or is it just this new range thats not selling?

Loads of airitys, tourneys and gmax1000’s/g10s on show.

I bought the Garbo M1 last week and its very good, but I have to admit I haven’t seen another one on the bank yet.

I’ve just bought a new Daiwa Whisker which imo is superb,it is hopefully going to last me a few years. Some manufactures seem to up grade their poles too often, it does not seem that long ago that Garbolino brought out the G10 and thats been upgraded twice since then.

I don’t know anyone who’s bought a new pole recently – everyone round here seems to be hanging on to what they have. Money seems to be incredibly tight these days – a lot of people are too scared to spend anything needlessly and new poles are a long way down the order of priorities. 🙁 🙁

                  I’d say not really.
I have a Tourney Pro which now stands me at nothing.
And Daiwa would like me to buy an Airity with the wrong topkits and needing sidepuller conversions and fitting with all new hydros/bushes etc at £2600 minimum.
For a debatable slightly better paint finish.
                  Er no.
All the tackle shops i’ve been in lately seem to be really struggling to stay afloat with some even resorting to selling secondhand tackle.

The tournament pro x is popular around our way.

Just brought the new Daiwa xr5. Its the new version of the old sr5 and is a big improvement apparently. I’ve not brought a new pole in years having inherited my dads original maver medusa and having another pole of the same age for the lighter stuff. Both pole’s were showing there age on the top joints so i treated my self. The xr5 comes with a good package as i do abit of everything an improvement on the three top’s three’s when i last brought one. One thing i found disappointing was the wall strength on the 4 n 5. easily squeezable on all the poles i tried. The pole was up to landing a small carp a fish of 6lb or so but did alot of creaking and the no 6 joint disfigured and wouldn’t come apart easily during the short battle. Does anyone else think that modern poles are over stated on elastics or under engineered. I think i should of looked harder for a modern tricast like a veriton (unless they are the same now?) but was concerned about spares, stiffness as I use the pole on hemp roach alot. I don’t see this pole lasting long before it turns to dust and this is someone who had an early maver for years.
I will always support my local tackle shop and i’m glad i did as the pole came with the wrong cupping kit and a quality pole bag with a damm great hole in the bottom. The team daiwa carryall also came without a carrying strap. Everything was replaced immediately without fuss, not so easy on the net, but daiwa slipped up badly.
Why is everybody obsessed with weight when most anglers fishing long use a support bar ?

I’m surprised you had problems with the daiwa pole, it must have been the shops fault surely? I cant believe daiwa ship this pole out from the factory in that description to the retailers do they?

If people aren’t buying new poles maybe this will encourage the manufacturers to reduce their profit margins

All poles are 40% over priced to start with imo
