Result of Redditch Federation / AVVC Open contest held at Arrow Valley Lake, Redditch on 22.10.11, the fifth and last of the recent series of open matches run over the summer months.
Following a week that included the first two night time frosts of the winter the reasonable turn out of 26 anglers generally found the lake quite a tough proposition on a day of bright sunshine and a stiff breeze.
Peg 54 once again produced the winning catch, but this time it was method feeder fished tight to the big island, a cast of well over fifty yards, that produced the goods rather than the pole tactics which were successful last month.
Match winner Phil Bird (Quality Baits) went one better this time following his runner-up spot of last month with a clear win. Phil took a brace of carp for about 17lb and 15 bream on red maggot hook baits for a 59lb 4oz total.
Runner-up Maurice Williams (Match Fishing Scene) was on the other side of the lake on peg 28, where he also went for a long chuck to the island, again method feeder did the business for a catch of 8 good bream and a few skimmers for a 24lb 7oz bag.
Third place was taken by Scott Poynton (Maver Solihull Angling) who lost a number of fish early on but then winkled out 5 bream for 22lb 5oz on peg 69.
Martin Tremlett (Kingfisher Angling) completed the frame in fourth spot with the best pole caught bag of the day after persevering in the strong wind to take 14lb 14oz of hand sized skimmers on pellet hook bait.
