I have had a lower back problem, due to an out of alignment disc, for many years ( I am 51 yrs old )
I think it is getting worse, and have been in severe pain since sunday 3/4.
I was due to be on a weeks hol this week at whiteacres, but could not go, instead stuck at home.

Seen doctor again today and been refered to a back spec and will have another scan to inveatigate.
When i can go fishing and use a pole i can only fish a top 2 or 3 + 2 or 3 sections, which is better than not fishing, luckily my club lake has some pegs where it is deep in the margins.

I have a MatchBox that i sit on BUT when i am well again and can go fishing, i am considering i may have to get a chair ???

For eg MatchBox do a chair or Korum ?

Anyone in a similar situation and could advise PLEASE

        THANKS
        ray

If I were you I’d ask the specialist about what you can and can’t do to help your condition.

I’ve had increasingly severe back problems for three years now and I’m due to see a specialist later this month.

My problem is worsened by osteo-arthritis and I’m told I will likely have an injection of something or other in my lower spine when they’ve decided on the best course of treatment.

I’ve given up fishing for now and it may well be permanent.

Its easy to get caught up thinking all sorts of things when you are suffering from severe back problems.
I have had a double discectomy sp? on disc’s 6 and 7 that was done just over 12 months ago and prior to having it done, i put up with it for nearly 3 years which was difficult to say the least.
Fishing on a regular basis made it alot worse.
I am now back fishing using all disciplines, pole to 16m, waggler, stick, feeder etc and there are some days where you may ache a bit, but generally every thing is a whole lot better.
As for the chair thing, it’s going to be a personal thing i think. I thought that a chair would be the way forward for me, but what i can say is that i dont need it at all. My space station is now the best it has ever been and getting it bang on level equals a comfortable days fishing.
Have your back done, go through the recovery period and then ease your way back into your fishing slowly. You can see how you are at that point and then start to make decisions on your kit.

              It’s a Saga thing!

Sitting fishing does not improve a back condition even after surgery in the long run.

Best advice is not what you want to hear..give up fishing, lose weight, exercise more and strengthen stomach and back muscles. Aim to touch toes without straining and become more limber.

If you must go fishing, don’t sit in one postion for too long. Get off your box and do some exercises to stop from siezing up. Drink enough water to keep you properly hydrated.

Dont think a chair would help you, none of them have any lumber support and fishing a pole would be more awkward.

3 para what Cutnut said – spot on.
