Lee agree with your stance here and I have missed a match due to ending up in hospital and still had my wife text you whilst in casualty!
Great event mate and well run but do feel the last round was ruined by the amount of space for some and lack of for others! Next year I hope you run it again and maybe reduce the amount of anglers so it stays say 60 pegs even space, less of the some get 3 blank pegs some 1…you know what I mean.
All have plenty of qualifying opps as run over 5 matches, the reserve lists disappearing has proven that a smaller match in the rounds and final would probably be better for all.
Just my opinion as Barston fishes better when its every other peg. If the demand was there I fully understand but only 55 fished the July round out of 80 names on the main list and nearly that on the reserve list!
GL mate thankless task and do hope it runs next year as i for one like Barston.

I was saying the exact same thing earlier about making next years 60 anglers. If 60 anglers are on the reserve list then I dont think it matters .. u will always get your anglers dropping like flys…..

As for the room issue . to be honest I think it worked out fairly well considering… I think all sections went with 4 in each apart from 1 section which only had 3 anglers , and that section was won with 50lb.

Its a thankless task Lee and you are doing a fine job of it..My suggestion for the one thing that could perhaps be done differently is wait for everyone to pay on the morning and then allocate the number of pegs to anglers accordingley,That way,it would eliminate the problem of gaps and spare pegs left in the bucket 🙂 .

I think you would be wise to insist on peg fees paid up front for those committed to fishing the league next year, and make it clear they are non-refundable. It’s not unreasonable and sorts the flakey anglers out right from the start.

The last thing you need as a match organiser is to be dipping into your own pocket to pay for someone elses poor behaviour.

As your league gets more popular and people see that you run it straight and suffer no fools this will be seen as a plus. Those that moan will be the ones that will bail and you have enough of a waiting list anyway for it not to be a bother.

The tight pegging at barston is hardly your problem, and I think people forget that Nigel and his family run it as a business and a half used lake should mean double the peg fee if they expect to get exclusive use.

                        Lee,

When i applied for the last July match, 3 days before the event, there were already 24 guys on the waiting list, making me number 25 on the waiting list.

As i had not been contacted via email, txt or phone to advise that i could fish, why would i drive all that way and turn up for a match when i couldnt fish it?

Then you barr me from all future matches, perhaps im missing something here, but if im on a waiting list i aint fishing unless othewise advised.

                        Confused.

Nobody said it was a problem for Lee nor Nigel but when it is too late to change the pegging as we waited in a queue for the no shows to turn up it did become a problem! Too late to change the pegging… had they let Nigel/Lee know they were not coming then a better match would have been had by all!! I have no problem with tight pegging but we all like fair pegging. I like the way the matches are run and have said to Nigel countless times it is my favourite venue, just a shame not more matches on the venue! We didn’t pay double the peg fee as 55 fished as I said in my post, so not a problem for me from that point if you can see my point it is about no shows that didn’t let Lee/Nigel know in advance of the day and gave them a problem on the morning. I don’t run matches and it is a thankless task as posted earlier, and appreciate what these guy’s do and am sticking up for them. I will fish it if its every peg in or on an end peg like I was last week, and enjoyed it as much on all matches I have fished on the venue, If I want exclusivity I will take up pleasure fishing!

I do run winter silver only league matches and I have had all the ball aches booking on and not showing. and my solution is now to ask and get the peg fees up front, no pay no play simples.. My comments are not aimed at you Amer. Even before Nigel re-pegged it the pegs were a compromise. The pegs down in the bottom left corner of the lake that are effectively set back can be a mare to draw and would benefit from several lorry loads of concrete some days 😮

Just an aside to the thread but in keeping with the theme of being let down. The constant moans and dodges of rules I’ve encountered are nearly always from the ‘pot hunters’ and I’m sure you can spot them and know who they are. They include:

Trying to look in the draw bag,
taking two pegs and trying to make believe they didn’t know (on my matches they put them both back and draw again)
demanding to fish the feeder on float only matches.
Not enough money charged for pools.
wanting carp to count in non carp matches.
demanding to use baits that are not on the list.
                              pegging
wanting to use micro-barbs on barbless only waters.
striking off floating baits such as bread where feeding floaters is banned and then having the gall to deny it
                              Start times, end times.
wanting to walk the bank during a match, a trick often used to slow up or stop another angler from catching by skylining or making a noise.
moments before the all out or as it’s called burying the pole or rod tip under the water and claiming ‘fish on’ whilst actually not having one on and attempting to catch after the match has finished, or claiming not to have heard the call.
                              etc……………..

If I could afford to fish Lee’s matches I would, I have two sons who fish and would want to fish also, but bait, pools and breakfasts makes a sizeable wedge that I can’t justify. So consequently I don’t fish it anymore 🙁

I cant stand that or not even burying the tip just leaving the rig in the water on full show for an extra 10 seconds, happens all the time!!

Lee i agree with some of the above as in you need to take a deposit next year up front. Otherwise the same will happen again as in people will just stick their names down for the lot and think ill worry about if i can make it nearer the time. Once they have to part with money then they will think differently in my opinion.

When I was running matches I had a bloke ring me up at 11.45 pm on a Saturday (my fault for leaving the mobile on I suppose) more than a little worse for wear for drink. He booked in a match the following day and then was so hung over he couldn’t be bothered to ring or turn up the next day.

There are others who will ask you to put their names down when you are driving, having a meal, making love, packing up after a match at a totally different venue, boarding a plane at Gatwick etc etc. The best way to book into a match is at the draw the previous week or by text at least 2 days before the match.

How come everyone can manage to organise their bait, tie rigs, get info on how the place is fishing, pacify the other half and do all
manner of other things to do with the match during the week ahead but leave it until the Saturday evening to book in FFS!

Some people are just bad mannered.
