AnonymousHi Chaps,
Just a quick question, does anyone own a z9 and what are there thoughts and opinions on the pole ? Im going to look at one this week. How long are the power kits and how does the pole handle at 14m/16m.
Many thanks

TF_craigmI’ve had mine for just over 12 months and really like it. The pole itself is light, rigid, responsive and very well balanced. The finish is also the best I have used, its also very strong which is the one thing I was worried about at first as I have broken loads of sections in the past. It handles very well at 14/16m and I would say its as straight as my G10 at 14.5m but goes slightly at 16m. The powermatch kits are a very strong yet light, I use them without the no1 but I’m not sure of the length without measuring one.

TF_craigmI got mine from Fishermans Friend for £1730, JT Tackle in Essex were doing them for £1650 but unsure if that price still applies.
I’ve had no problems with the cupping kit, but I have never used it with a really large pot on. -

TF_paulDHad mine for nearly a year now and still think its the best pole on the market when you consider everything including the price of extra kits, spares availbilty and overall performance. I wont be selling mine until a z10 or z11 comes along – and i used to change poles and brands every spring. Theres no need to as it hasnt worn, broken, jammed, let me down or just pissed me off in any way. At least 2 shop owners near me have bought them for there own use which must be a good sign.
Just measured a match kit and its 2.65m with the tip out. Like Craig I use mine like that with a big sensas internal fitted and have had everything through it.
I was at Colemans cottage fishery in Essex a few times last summer and they were doing really good deals on them and there were lots of them being used on the fishery.
I thought the cupping kit with it was the only crap thing as was strong but very heavy – didnt bother to use it. -

TF_wightanglermate(Ian Jones) won a match at Dandy’s Ford a while back fishing shallow(90lb odd if i recall correctly) at 18M- a good regular southern circuit matchman at next peg was very impressed with the Z9 after the apparent comparitive fishability and handling that this pole could be fished even at this length.

TF_paulDReally well written review DanJones. You should get a job on the fishing mags. Nice to read an proper review instead of the usual bo*****s dished out by the mags to keep big advertisers happy.
Think you are spot on, My mate went from a G10 to a Z9 (he tried the GMAX and didnt rate it). He says G10 wins on stiffness but the z9 is much easier to use long as is lighter and slips through the hands much easier, which is important for him as he has a dicky back. Extra bits have also been easy to get as he had some long waits for G10 bits. Got a good price for the G10 when he sold it though. -

I think people are a little dubious about Browning as they haven’t been one of the really “Big Hitters” in terms of pole popularity, but I think that is set to change since the Z9 was introduced. As a top end pole it’s up there with the best. That fact that it’s only £1700 with 9 kits makes it pretty much untouchable in terms of performance against cost!

The owner of my local shop went to all the trade shows and reckons the new z7.5, z4 and z2 are the best poles for the money he saw bar none. He said they are exactly like the Z9 but in cheeper price ranges. He ordered a z9 and a z2 for himself to replace his Arity. He said they have some interesting new power rods aswell.
