Yesterday I fished a match on the Canal, did okay won my section and finished third overall but something was bothering me with my presentation and I thought I would ask before trying it next time.
Okay here goes, I was fishing punch and slowly lowering the last two foot of the rig in but the breeze was not really allowing me to do this in as straighter line as I would have liked affecting in my opinion presentation, now my mainline was 0.10 with a 0.07 hook length if I was to use a heavier stiffer mainline say an 0.16 would this have aided presentation.

no cos it would have been caught by the wind to a greater extent

if you’d have dropped to a 0.08 mainline the problems caused by the breeze would have been less

alternatively a couple of no8 backshot up the line to the pole tip might have helped

SAME PROBLEM ON SUNDAY ON OUR CANAL a couple of 12s as back shot spread over 6in did the trick just make sure you don’t get a wrap round ~sick ~sick its a nightmare

Rather than use back shot try a 12″ length of lead core between rig and connector.

Its less tangle prone than backshot and won’t damage your pole if you pull out of anything.

Beauty of lead core is that it hangs straight down from the pole and you can get a nice “L” shape between end of pole/leadcore and the float.

You can also sink the end of the leadcore without the float dragging under which happens with backshot.

Or just step up your float size.
