TF_daveyboyFish clayworth and greys bridge leaky, plenty of fish in front of the boats at clayworth, and some big chub at greys bridge.

TF_hempmasterThe fish seem to prefer cover of barges along this stretch and because of the regular activity on the bank are not as bothered as anglers by boat traffic or even localised disturbance.Infact some of the quieter stretches seem to contain less fish.
We have had success on punch or pinkie over groundbait down the track with a choppie swim tight to the barge side were we alternate redworm/dendra/lobbie.There are some decent perch and chub so strong laccy is a good move here as they often dive under the keel. When water temps are up the skimmers/tench will settle over a sweet fishmeal and we’ve had em on expander this year but red maggot over micro’s is more realible.
As a alternative larger canal the Steak and Keadby at Thorne should soon receive its annual migration of fish to concentrate the shoals from Moors/Mauds bridges through Wykwell and past Blue marina into town centre. -

TF_Leaky Lloydwill do matey,,
might be there thursday,, phoned R&R Sports in bawtry and they reckon the best approach would be choppy and caster up to the boays and hemp at 4 to 5 meter by hand,,
think we’re gunna try both approaches,, see what happens! -

TF_Dave PelletI love canal fishing, probably right up there with tench fishing on secluded lilly covered lakes (if I could find one!) & trotting for grayling
was wasting a bit of time on Google mapping yesterday, instead of working, and using the ‘Pegman’ streetview – at certain points there are photo’s that people have taken, and one of the photo’s is of a peg on the Chesterfield Canal at Retford, which brought back very happy memories for me as it was the peg I won my first ever match at!!
bit too late in the year now to be revisiting that one though as the tench that I won with will have probably stopped feeding by now!
maybe next year

TF_Leaky Lloydwent today ,,,
not good,, its absolutely rammed with weed,, couldnt find a weed free spot anywhere in my swim and neither could our sean!!!
according to the bayliff,, they have been refused permission to rake it out and the fishing is suffering as a result, we had a knock up and i won the toss chosing peg 4, fished most of the day right up to the boauts with choppy and caster as the bottom of the near and far shelfs where way to weedy!
finished with 2 decent chubb and a few bits for about 5 lb,, pulled out of 2 very good fish aswell and every fish came back covered in,, you guessed it,, weed!
it was quite tough in the fact that if you didnt present abait touching bottom you simply couldn’t get any bites, but every time you shipped in you had a big ball of bloody weed on the hook!!!our kid had a lot more fish,, but they where tiny and he must have had about 40 fish for about 3lb if that!!!
it was a really tuff session but as it was a break from the norm still really enjoyed it!!!!
they need to dredge that stretch or its gunna be unfishable soon!
