Fished a club match Sunday & after half an hour my feet were flipping freezing. Footwear was a pair of old Boom 80 boots with rather well worn Skeetex liners & 3 pairs of socks. This combo has served me well for the last 10 years or so (not the same socks) but now it seems clear that a new pair of boots are required.

So are Skeetex still top dog in the toasty feet world or are there better alternatives out there?

Advice on socks would be appreciated also.

        Many thanks.

Skeetex, had mine for about 15 years with no sign of wear,I,ve changed the liners maybe 3 times. I,ve not tried any thing else because i,ve not had reason to.

Cold feet are usually sweaty feet.

I think you were wearing too many socks and skeetex boots are not breathable. You might have done better not to wear any socks so that your toes could move more freely.

The best combinations I have found to be reliable are.

A thin sock worn inside a good wool sock worn inside a pair of walking boots that are goretex lined and a thermal insole. A pair of goretex walking gaiters also help to keep the ankles warm and the benefit is you are more able to walk on slippery surfaces. Skeetex should be renamed Skidtex.

The sealskinz socks are good but dont wear them in tight fitting boots as you might as well have not bought them.(about £25 pair)

Are you on any kind of blood thinners or diabetic as poor circulation during the winter months is far more noticeable as the body draws in from the extremities to keep the core warm.

One or two mad hattters have suggested using a throwaway barbi lit under your foot plate!!! Mind it would be useful for a mid match bacon buttie! 😀

Baffin Titan boots r the dogs, much better to walk in than skeetex.120 quid though!also a hot flask of soup plus a large peacock hand warmer. Sorted.

Gents, many thanks for the surprisingly sensible replies. Think I will explore the decent quality socks route first of all.

Not sure if I can avoid the bottle of wine the evening before however, it helps block out the X Factor.

Thanks once again & have a great Christmas.
