whats best, winding spare elastic onto the bung or having a large loop in the elastic above it?

I think the advent of hollow elastics has done away with the need for a loop above the bung. A stora-bung is much more versatile, leaving you the option of tensioning elastic and being able to account for having to chop any worn areas off the connector end.

I have to say, when I used solid elastics I used to use a big loop and wrap that round the winder (keeping the loop in the lakky). I only use hollows now though, and you wont get a loop of hollow around any winder!

i just wind elastic on to the winder trapping the loose end – no knot used – then i can change elastic without cutting and discarding.

I use a small loop (4″ Old habits die hard! lol) and Dacron to the bung. Much lighter than wrapping elastic and much quicker to get your desired setting.
