TF_Gary KDespite registering my name in the county champs and finishing 9th in the Norfolk league, I turned up at the Norfolk semi at Railway and was turned away because I was not on the list to fish.
Have I missed something because apparently I should have confirmed I was going to fish the semi but I have had no notification of this?
I may have not fished the final at Barston even if I had got through but I am more annoyed that I have wasted a morning and 30 miles if fuel. -

TF_Simon PYes you are correct with your last statement……
After registering and qualifying to fish the “Semi” final, Anglers then had to phone Angling Times stating that they be able to fish it, failure to contact Angling Times ment that you did not intend to fish the semi and your place would have been given to another!!
Instructions on the above were printed in the Angling Times and on their web site!

TF_AbiParticipantHi all
For the 2010/2011 county champs all anglers had to register online. If they did not have the internet they could call the office to register over the phone.
Up until July time all names were printed in the tables (unregistered and registered). Then in the final tables (top 20 for each county) unregistered anglers were removed. In the paper we then asked anglers to contact us telling us whether they would fish their qualifier or not. I then called anglers who hadn’t contacted us that were in the top 20 to ask if they were fishing their qualifier or not.
I’m sorry you got turned away, there must have been a problem with your regstration as even if you were on the top 20 list and hadn’t told us you were going to fish and we couldn’t get hold of you, you would still be able to fish. I presume we never got your registration details which would expalin why your weren’t in the published top 20 and didn’t receive a phone call.
Abi – Angling Times
Next year we are working on a better registration process (making it more well known to anglers as some were not aware they had to register and perhaps send confirmation emails out for registration)

TF_Gary KThanks for the explanation Abi but can’t have been too much of a problem with the registration as I got the spool of free line and had was shown as registered when I checked the table. I did ask Sarah who was running the semi if I could fish as I’m sure there were not 20 anglers in the semi but on the list she had it clearly stated that if you were not down you could not fish.
Fortunately as already stated I have not been chasing points and may not have fished as I believe the chances of a team who cannot really practice on the venue due to the cost and distances involved doing any good in this competition is nill. The teams local to Barston or with paid transport will win every year -

After looking at the results in the paper last week I was wondering if AT did contact anyone outside the top 20? The attendances were very poor on a lot of the qualifiers.
It seems that the interest in this completion is very low. Could it be due to it being a team match finale?

TF_AbiParticipantHello all
Gary K – Did you speak to Sarah before the day of the qualifier? If you had called before the qualifier I could have got you a place. Other anglers that called us saying that had registered but the details hadn’t reached us, we let fish. We did ask anglers to confirm with us if they were fishing their qualifier. On some qualifiers I rang down the list of registered anglers to get more anglers fishing their qualifier. SOme of the anglers in the top 20 I couldn’t contact – emails and phone calls were ignored so I didn’t know whether they were going to fish their qualifier. It would have been unfair to offer their place to someone else further down the list and then get an oversubscribed qualifier if they decided to show.
tonywilliams – There has been a problem with some anglers registering which we were not aware of until the final week of registering. It seems that anglers were registering their friends if they did not have an email address. The computer system only accepted one name per email address so some details were submitted but never reached us. We are working on an improved system for next year. Anglers that simply did not register or did not attempt to register were not allowed to fish their qualifiers accept in those counties where less than 20 anglers registered.
mickyd- Which email address did you email? I responded to all emails sent to [email protected] or directly to myself.
missabite – There is now an individual final as well as a team final. We are always wanting to hear of suggestions for improvements to the competition so please email your ideas to the County Champs email address mentioned above. When we have a meeting to discuss the 2010/2011 competition and improvements for 2011/2012 I will mention any improvements I receive.
Tight lines

TF_NathanWatsonWhen does it start again then? 🙂

TF_AbiParticipantAll details will be announced in the paper shortly after the final. Like last year there will be a gap between the final and the competition starting again to give us time to reflect and make any adjustments necessary to the running of the competition.

TF_Gary KAbi- Due to commitments,I have not been fishing much recently and have not been to Barford for some weeks so no, I did not speak to Sarah before Saturday and as already stated, I was not aware I had to( or anyone else)
I received an E/mail from her about 10 days ago telling me there was a couple of practice match’s for the semi, last weekend and on Thursday last so this led me to believe that I was expected to fish and on the list.
